ws6blue Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 everton always step up their game against us, so dont expect anything different this time, but with their patchy season we have good chance to beat them but carlo may need to show tad less loyalty to his strikers cos they arnt doing it - so I would drop drogs (seriously) and give sturridge full game everton are missing some key players, but still have decent squad of organised and committed players - so expect tough match but chelsea to win 2-1, may not be pretty
PloKoon13 Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Another club which always finds its form against us. Hopefully the return of Essien will be enough.
mad_mac Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Away from home we've been less than formidable this season. however, I do agree that Carlo needs to stop picking the team on reputation/seniority alone. But out the team that's going to perform on the day, with the strategies and oposition in mind. Sometimes I fear we are putting out a team based solely on "favourite," or seniority, not on who is playing the best. Tough game, and think Cahill will be a problem from set pieces. Arteata is banned, right? I'll take any win, any way possible!
Spiller86 Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 I'm really not sure who goes out for Essien's return. Certainly Alex is the obvious omission for Terry given his surgery and whatnot. As silly as this sounds I really like Kalou in the team, his ability to run at defenders is unique, though perhaps he is best left on the bench in case we do need a little extra impact later. If Lampard is fittish then a place on the bench would do him well initially, and he can get some minutes a little later on. I was impressed with the fight Ramires showed in the second half and it would be harsh to take him out after his best half of the season. So: Cech, Bosingwa, Ivan, Terry, Cole, Mikel, Essien, Ramires, Malouda, Drogba and Anelka. With Lampard (if fit) and Kalou in reserve

Arteata is banned, right? I'll take any win, any way possible! That leaves some very difficult choices for the manager though sSott, Its hard to judge whos playing best from what we've seen so likely he thinks from training he is putting the best team out. On performances the front three of Kalou Anelka and Drogba if you were going to take out the player on worst form for Sturridge then for me that would be Drogba...something if I were Carlo I wouldn't do as he is showing signs of playing back into form. In defense we are too sparse to change much unless Alex is unfit to play and then the choice between Bruma and Ferreira has to be made and by what I've seen so far that is a tough choice. Midfield wise unless Essien is back we have to have Malouda there to strengthen it up a bit but if Essien returns that for me would see Kalou on the bench and Malouda back in the front three, Ramires and Mikel although the latter looked off the pace last game really have to start with Mceachran as back up. we have no real impact from the bench and no real gamechanging players..I don't see what more Carlo can do at this time. I hope Essiens fit for the Everton game as that sures up the midfield and we can have Kalou for a bit of impact later on.
ozboy Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 I agree with Chippy's team. However its a tossup whether Alex or Terry is the more crocked up. The story was that Terry was back for this one and Alex needs an op. As between Kalou and Ramires if Essien is fit, its much of a muchness. I hope Drogs is coming back into form, and I'd like to see Anelka score one or two. As one of 550 million who watched Barca v Real M. I feel we have a lot of work still to do this season. Stlll I think the team is playing together and even when things go wrong we aren't getting down on each other. Cech's form is fantastic. So with Ramires, Bossy, and Drogs improving and Essien on the point of returning maybe we can run into some form again. Of course deep down I suspect our deeper troubles could reemerge at any point. Essien, Lampard, Terry and Alex are all at risk for most of the season and Anelka and Drogs are starting to fade at the very highest level. There Manager has lost his assistant and his talent spotter. The manager has rumours that he wants to return to Italy. As ever the answer is always for every player to do his part on the field and off and the rest of the game will look after itself. Just like playing though its easier talked about than done. If we can't beat Everton at home we should head off to the room of mirrors. Whatever our problems are theirs are far worse.
ethicalstrategy Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Cech Bosingwas, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole Mikel Essien Ramires Anelka, Drogba, Malouda Subs: Turnbull, Van Arnholt, Bruma, McEachran, Lampard, Kalou, Sturridge,
clubhappy Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Carlo under huge pressure if we f**k this one up.
yorkleyblue Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 (edited) I don't think so - comfortably through the CL as group winners, second in the league. It depends on what injured players get back to match fitness and when, whether we get that bit of luck in front of goal that has been missing since the dippers or before. Everton could go either way - they can be dire, or they can play like it's their cup final. In any case, Carlo is under no more pressure than he has been for weeks, and neither is the team Edited November 30, 2010 by yorkleyblue
midlandblue Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 if there is pressure on Carlo its all ready there
Maverick Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 If JT is back for this game I am quite confident that we can get 3 points, if JT is unavailable and Alex continues to makes petty errors I'll be on the edge of my seat for 90 mins. This one is probably one of the toughest fixtures this month and a victory could really be the confidence boost that the side needs.
Ben Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Cech Bosingwa, Ivan, JT, Cole Ramires Malouda, Essien Anelka, Drogba, Kalou
Gilvorak Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Cech Bosingwa, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole Mikel Essien Malouda Sturridge, Drogba, Kalou Anelka needs to be dropped tbh.
Randy36 Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Cech Bosingwa, Ivan, JT, Cole Ramires Malouda, Essien Anelka, Drogba, Kalou I'd go along with that lineup with one exception. I'd replace Ramires with Mikel Essien, Mikel, Malouda.
Ben Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 I'd go along with that lineup with one exception. I'd replace Ramires with Mikel Essien, Mikel, Malouda. Felt a bit harsh dropping Mikel, because generally his form has been good this season, but he has been at fault for the last 2 goals. Ramires also looked very good in his position in the 2nd half, as opposed to trying to play Super Franks.

Arteata is banned, right? I'll take any win, any way possible! Same here. You're right, Arteta is out for this one, which has to be a bonus And about Cahill who has a nasty habit of popping up with a goal when least expected. Not sure about Saha though. He hasn't had the best of seasons so far and started on the bench against West Brom but I couldn't tell you whether or not he actually figured in the game. He's scored just a single league goal so far this season, but as has been noted elsewhere, he's got an even nastier habit of raising his game especially for us.

Completely agree Chips, and I'm not saying that Carlo has an easy Job, nor am I being critical of him. Hope that's not how you took my post. I think having Malouda back in the front three along with Essien back in the midfield is a huge point of future success in our efforts to regain the league title. Scott

Scott No mate I know what you meant, just trying to put some reasons across for why its been going the way it is before the pessimists pick up on your points and exaggerate them. Malouda has sured up the midfield a bit but again its playing a player in a less favourite role and he is much more effective in his usual position, hope hes back to that from now on.
Randy36 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 As far as my memory serves me Everton has never lost in the league at Stamford Bridge since April 17th 2006. We won that game 3-0 with Lampard, Drogba and Essien scoring. It's time to repeat the performance and come up with a similar score.
PloKoon13 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/football_focus/9243912.stm David Cameron has us to win 2-1. But then he also (tongue-in-cheek, obviously) predicted Liverpool would lose 6-0 and Blackpool would beat Man Utd.
Guest Sindre Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/60094.html?CMP=OTC-RSS Lampard still out apparantly. This is getting ridiculous now.
ethicalstrategy Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 If Alex continues to makes petty errors .... Not likely as he has gone for his knee op as far as I know.
Randy36 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/football_focus/9243912.stm David Cameron has us to win 2-1. But then he also (tongue-in-cheek, obviously) predicted Liverpool would lose 6-0 and Blackpool would beat Man Utd. I understand Cameron is a cricket and tennis fan who apparently claims he's an Aston Villa supporter. Here'a a conversation bertween Cameron and Andy Coulson, his head of communications, a football fan, as they watch the second half of the England/Slovenian game on telly. Cameron: Wow. This is great. Come on England. Which one are we? Coulson: We're in red. Cameron: Right, excellent. Not in white? Coulson: No, we're in red today. Cameron: Right, right. What's happening ? Is it a lineout? Coulson: Throw in. Cameron: Of course, absolutely. Throw in not lineout. Brilliant. Lampard skies the ball over the bar. Cameron: Oh, I say. Does that count? Coulson; It went OVER the bar. Cameron: Damn. Of course. Football, under the cross bar. Rugby, over the cross bar. I understand football was not a popular sport at Eton.
blueisthecolour85 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Lampard still out apparantly. This is getting ridiculous now. It cant be long before he is back though, just a week or so. Terry coming back will be a boost as our defence looks flimsy without him. Arteta is suspended for them which is good, plus I don' think they are playing very well at the moment. It could be a good time to play them - unless they raise their game of course!!
BlueNose Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 were not playing well either and this game will be very difficult.Everton always give us a good game and if we play the same way as we have recently we can expect to drop points again.
