He did, but Clough had other ideas. He was a revelation as a CB, until he joined up with Ally McLeod for the 78 WC. As I'm sure you'll remember.

Talking of hard men, i was at a gentlemans evening in the 1980's and Tommy Docherty was the guest speaker. I remember him saying of Peter Storey, he had a great left foot, but we never knew whose it was.😂

Tommy Docherty was rumoured to be involved with extra marital relationships at that time and the compare thought he was being funny saying Im glad to welcome you here tonight Tommy at least i know my wife is safe...to which Tommy Docherty replied...Ive seen your wife.😂 (nothing to worry about)

During the 1960s, English football operated under a strict retained list system managed by the Football League, where clubs registered and held the registration rights to their preferred first-team and reserve players annually.

The clubs dictated the terms and conditions to the players and could their registration, even after the agreed contract had ended. The power was all in the clubs hands.

I’m trying to find out about permit players, I assume it would have been players from outwith Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland.
