76-77. Forest at home. Probably my 4th or 5th game at the Bridge. Massive, ongoing ruck in the North Stand. Was in the benches with the old man and my brothers. Just when you thought the old bill had got it under control, off it went again. One of those rare games where fighting continued for most of the 90 minutes

Chelsea at the City ground earlier that season was legendary for trouble. The police put us in the Trent End, which did not go down well with Forest Fans.

I was at both games and stayed well away from all the mayhem.

Both games were on MotD. A year later Forest won the League, and a year after that we were relegated, while Forest won the European Cup.

I have vivid memories of going to the City Ground for a midweek game the year we went down in '79. Our away support back then was incredible, as this article on the game makes clear:

I've never forgotten this bit. We knew we were doomed, and were intent on having a great time, even in the miserable conditions at the end of a total battering . Our back 4 that day has a claim to be our worst ever, with Borota in goal: G Wilkins, Stride, Sitton, Nutton.

The support seemed to get louder and louder and stunned the Forest fans into silence. “You’re supposed to be at home” went into “We want seven” to “We’ll support you ever more” and when the Trent End tried a woeful “You’re going down, you’re going down” we responded quickly with a “We’re going down, we’re going down”. The final whistle went and any other team on the end of a 6-0 hammering would probably have been booed off the pitch but the 10 men of Chelsea were warmly applauded by the travelling Chelsea contingent and the Blues fans were even applauded by their Forest counterparts at the end of the game.

Haven’t been to Forest too many times. Think in was Xmas 1996 or thereabouts. All their young men on the stand on the left. Left the ground, walking towards car. A fellow Chelsea fan thought we were Forest and starched my mate out. Bad day all round
