Strange that Chelsea could to build a 60,000 ground then with no talk of moving out. The east stand which was the first part was built as the season went on. The plan was to build a 60,000 ground just as Chelsea want now. Also on the right was a planned new link road which was going over the top of or beside the railway lines so im sure a walkway could be built which would be needed for Chelsea to now build a 60,000 ground.

I remember the Monday night game at West Ham really well as I got nlcked met in the pub at Bethnal Green got to Upton Park Station West Ham were waiting outside the Queens it went off with BG and others seem to remember there was some roadworks near and a few signs were slung about last thing I remember was the old bill shouting out "get him in the brown suit" which was me cost me £50 at Stratford Magistrates most of the rest were locked out memories of Tottenham 4 years earlier

A mate told me Chelsea met up at dirty dicks a pub by Liverpool Street station and the bulk of the Chelsea support was being escorted down Gren Street when Chelsea scored after 2 mins. Its said Chelsea only had 800 in the corner that night some say less than that.

60,000 but with a lot of terracing.  Both the Shed and North Stand look very similar to the old Stretford End.

Werent the new ground going to be like the east stand 3 tiered but all the way round. The plans i see was the lower tier behind both goals terraces with the middle and upper tiers behind both goals seats. Even if you put seats in them areas behind the goal still would have held 54/55,000

The Spurs game 78/79 you say Spurs got a good hiding. Loads of Chelsea used to say that Spurs were never in the shed. 78/79 where was the row was it before or during the game and what happened im sure a few would like to know. I heard was about 75 Spurs but you will know better than me. Also the 82 fa cup game ive heard Spurs had about 100 in the shed pre the game but were run out did anyone see it cos i got in the west stand about 2,45 that day and i didnt see anything.

The problem in those days was getting it together.  We smashed Millwall out of the Shed, took Arsenal the next season on Boxing Day, got taken by West Ham a couple of days later and then gave Spurs a good hiding in the Shed the following year!

I'm sure i read that the total amount of arrests during the day and post match, totalled over a couple of hundred?. If true, hardly surprising as we gave them the whole North End Road stand, and they had an estimated 10,000 + in attendance.

They came in the Bovril Gate just before kick off and Chelsea just piled into them and they climbed over the wall and got escorted to the other end.  That led to their support in the North Stand which they pretty much filled having a go at the railings by the West Stand which swayed backward and forwards, they looked like they were made of rubber from the other end.  I didn't go to the cup match.

I know I've seen this one before, but can't remember whether or not it's already been posted in this thread. If it has, here it is again, and if not, here it is anyway:

Bang on PB i saw a twattish Spurs neighbour of mine there and when i saw him on the Monday morning he had a massive shiner. I don't recall them in the Shed in 82 they had good numbers there but apparently sent some tickets back.

That Barnsley one there were loads of us in the seats above their boys so thats who the fist pumping is aimed at.  A short walk up the hill after the game and they were waiting for us at the top. It was pandemonium thereafter.

I was in the shed for that 82 cup game and honestly can't remember any Spurs in there.

Nice to see Charlton's away support has remained consistant over the decades!.
My Dad recalls my Grandfather taking him to The Bridge when he was young (would have been in the 1930's), and being passed over everyone's heads down to the front so he was able to see the game.
The point i take from that, is that there was no fear that someone  would try and abduct you, before your father found his way to the bottom of the terraces when the game fished, to find/collect you.
For Liverpool, substitute 'abduct' for 'rob'!.

When I first started going in the mid 60's I'd be down the front of the North Stand and my Dad would be up on the bank with his brother.  I think the first times I actually watched matches with him was the Glasgow Rangers and Jeunesse matches.  He probably had a him flask and didn't want me to grass him up to Mum.

Chelsea stars David Webb (l) and Peter Osgood ® pictured at Vidal Sassoon’s Belgravia Salon. The society hairstylist, an ardent Chelsea fan, promised the players a free haircut should they reach the League Cup Final. Chelsea however would go on to lose the final 2-1 to Stoke City.
