George Anstiss was the groundsman for years. Use to see him when I was a ball boy late 70s early 80s. His son John took over and may still be on the ground staff now.

Met some top Chelsea boys on the beach  in Nice prior to 98 Super Cup Final. Got on like a house on fire and arranged to stay at one of me new mates  the night before we flew to Copenhagen for CL trip. ( Usher at me wedding 5 years later)

Stuck me in his spare room- had to get up at 5 AM- couldn’t help but notice on a shelf he had all Chelsea home and away programmes from about 69 onwards- Got approxiamately half hours kip that night.

programme cover for Chelsea v Bolton Wanderers, Saturday, 31st Aug 1946 We won 4-3 in front of  62,850. Tommy Lawton got 2 of ours as did Dickie Spence. Nat Lofthouse also scored 2 .

2-2 at HT. Moneys worth for the crowd that day.

The only time I stood on the North Stand terrace was this game as the shed was shut that night! Chelsea beat China 3-1 I think and it was Ray Wilkins last game and goal for Chelsea

Went in the North Stand twice. Once when we played Luton last game of the season ( they got promoted and took a good few down for once- 82 I think, big punch up after final whistle), and Man U 85- Shed was locked out so joined hundreds who went in North Stand. Kicked off and we got escorted past the benches to Shed.

I was in the N/S for that Man U game, Southampton league cup 81, Birmingham 77 and I think that's it. We all knew as kids what the N/S did so no point in us being there. The Shed was a great laugh as a kid but after 83 I was only in there a handful of times and was probably more times in the temp end shed then I was on the old one. Was almost gate 13,benches,West Upper apart from games where you took what you got.
