I wonder what the average working class man's wage was back then ?

I mean by this, one of  my grandfathers who worked in the shipyards in 1931.

Good question. I've found this which gives some comparisons. I guess it can be difficult to make comparisons. We had the Depression in the thirties and then the big building boom in the thirties. My parents house was built in the 1930s. Nearly as old as mine.

A lot of families were bigger as well. Both of my paternal grand-parents had nine siblings. My maternal grand-mother had five siblings and my maternal grand-father had three. Must have been tough times growing up in the twenties. Goodness knows how many distant relations I have. My mother's family lived in Bermondsey and my father's family lived in Larkhall. Areas near big industries.

Surely that can't be the keeper he'd get chipped standing on his line (like Speedie against QPR). Apart from JT I think a few were on the fringes of first team action don't know if they played (again over to you Ersk) Pitt, Broad, Parkin.

 

My neighbour gave me the single no picture sleeve in about 1977. The B side was called We All Stand Together or something only played it once or twice.

I have checked both bounder,friardale and stamford.bridge .

Can't find any of them making any first team appearances for us.

Taken in 1912. Looks like a good crowd heading to the game.
