I like a picture of the Shed it's where we all started watching Chelsea but I've no idea what those two white things are. I've enlarged it still none the wiser. They look like their attached to the posts but what they were used for ?. Edit: Possibly lights for the greyhounds as the bookies would be in the Shed.

Stamford-Bridge-1-1140x641.jpeg

Stewards and a dog handler parade with Greyhounds dog before a race at Stamford Bridge racetrack, London, UK, circa 1968.

Would these lights be used to light up the actual greyhound track surrounding the pitch for the evening meetings ?

Sorry if this seems a really ‘stupid question’!

I admit to knowing absolutely nothing about greyhounds racing!!

Big shout to Bonnyriggblues for posting these. I never understood why we had to train in the forecourt it's weird it can't have been to protect the pitch it was fine then it's only when the East Stand was built when the pitch was terrible. The five a side game looks like a prison match and as for the pitch at Mitcham good god. I wonder if other clubs had similar facilities back then.

My next door neighbour bred greyhounds for racing and we used to go to many of the night meets in Reading / Catford to name a few.  One of his dogs won the 'Gold Collar' back in the 60's...

Interesting that it mentions greyhound racing saving the Club from bankruptcy in 1933. Something I wasn't aware of. Will need to investigate further. I know that the club signed some big names in the thirties. Must have picked up the old North Stand "seating area" was built in 1939.

They were f**kers to catch at the end of the race as they were scrambling around looking for the hare....I don't remember any dog ever catching it though 🤣

Would guess this is the early 80's I can honestly say I've never wore trousers and shoes to football he looks like he's going clubbing. They are the sort of strides you had to wear to get in to almost always terrible nightclubs with dreadful music.

A great picture of Ibrox. Am tempted to buy a copy. A few family members and a few friends will be interested. Looking forward to the one of the Bridge.
