Can’t remember, used to drink a cross the road before game. Remember early 90s was cans of hoffmiester.

I remember a few beers in green cans back in the day. Carlsberg and Heineken were the obvious ones but there was also Tuborg. I don't think Tuborg is still made but I could be wrong.

I've had a look at some of the plans and information about the redevelopment of the ground and it seems that the West Stand was going to be bigger than the East. Got me thinking that the "walls" at the ends of the East Stand would be temporary so it would blend into the Shed and North stands? Can anyone remember. Interesting that there is a road above the railway line. When the most recent plans were drawn up the railway line was going to be covered over. With a pedestrian route I think. What might have been if the club didn't end up skint.
July 6, 20224 yr Nothing to do with football but how Stamford Bridge was used before the club was founded. Bayonet exercise looks fun.
July 6, 20224 yr Posted a while back. Just seen this on Facebook. Great piece of music at the start. Mars from Holst's Planets Suite.

Carlsberg and especially Heineken would have seen to be extravagant by Bates 😆 Definitely the lower end of the market I'm now thinking possibly this.

Very true about Carlsberg and Heineken. I'd forgotten about Kestrel. A few of my friends drank it back in the day as it was cheaper than other beers. I rarely drink in the ground nowadays as the beer is crap and expensive. If the redevelopment does go ahead the quality of beer will improve. I can recommend loads of great real ales and single malt whiskies.
July 7, 20224 yr I remember when I used to be a ball boy during the school holidays. The players used to get Tuborg Gold after the game! it was stacked in the entrance of the ball boys changing room next to the away dressing room.
July 8, 20224 yr Not sure of the year some of the front row I think Freestone, Matthew, Hall, Cundy. Think this is 87 first game I heard a lot of pro Rangers songs we won 3-0 I had a good record when we played Watford back then never saw us lose went first time in 79-80. I posted it mainly to show the horrible kit got to be the worse ever. Edited July 8, 20224 yr by bluehaze

Watford game was live on tv. Lost 1-0 another f a cup run over early around that time!

Far as I remember we got off and the old bill told us to get back on the train as the Chelsea end was full ended up watching it at a mate's house in Stonebridge.

It's an odd relationship football and beer/food back when me and you were old enough to start drinking I guess Chelsea and all football clubs thought sod it their only here for 90 minutes lets give them cheap and nasty crap. If the beer was better back in the day apart from Bates being unwilling to pay for quality the club would probably lose money if the gate was 10,000. Football stadiums have improved massively in the last 20 years now the quality of the catering has gone up but so have the prices massively but I usually give it a swerve it's just not worth it. The last game I went to cause of the sanctions was the Palace semi-final went to a pub in Willesden we had Sunday lunch and a few pints 3 stops on the tube and I bought a packet of mints so I didn't get a dry throat no way were we going to buy beer in Wembley. As for single malts at the Bridge I can't see that happening ha ha again I think football clubs serve weak pissy beer so the fans don't get drunk in the ground if they served Stella and Glenfiddich it would be carnage.

Back when I started drinking beer the cost of a pint was about 50p. When it went up to a £1 a pint me and mates thought about cutting back. We didn't. Agree the standard of catering has improved but I rarely eat in the ground. Before the games we tend to meet up in a Wetherspoons pub and eat there. Beer is okay and cheap. Think I've only drunk beer once at Wembley. Never again as the beer was awful and cost an arm and leg. True it would be carnage with a mixture of Stella and Glenfiddich. On a few occasions over the years, I've taken a couple of hip flasks in to the ground during the winter months. One had whisky, the other rum. Two of my cousins are season ticket holders at Rangers. Up in Scotland the police clamp down on supporters drinking on buses and trains. Drinking in the streets is also not allowed. Saying that fans find a way around the rules. A bit off subject but was surprised that the Lloyds Bar in Fulham Broadway Station closed. Always did a good trade on match day. After the match we tend to go to the Atlas and occasionally the Lillie. Have to say that I'm not a big fan of the Lillie since Pat and Mary retired and the place was refurbished. Mary is a Chelsea fan and would go the game if there was a spare ticket.

Pubs are closing everywhere and what's also overlooked is the amount of British Legions / working mans clubs that have shut down in Harlesden there used to be loads don't think there are any left the one round the corner from FB station we used for a while. Going back to the pub in FB station can't imagine there was much footfall apart from match day what is also dying out is workers going en masse to the pub after work most places of work are no longer 9-5 and if a group of workmates men and women were to go out I doubt they'd pick the pub in the tube station although there isn't obviously the choice there once was.

I'd forgotten about Lloyds charging more on match day. Went in there on a non-match day a few times but that was before lockdown. As you say a lot of pubs and closing which is a shame and with changes in working practices. Yes, the choice isn't what it was and people will try other places rather than Lloyds. There are a few clubs near where I live and I belonged to one a few years back and I don't think they have as many customers as they once did. Tough for pubs at the moment and all trying to come up with new ideas to attract the punters. My local does a good selection of real ales and never the same from one week to another. There was a great club near Wembley. I went there a few times before finals and I've heard that it's closed. For the life of me I can't remember its name. Tommy Baldwin was in the club before one game and his song was sung. Edit: went into the Tournament a few times but that closed down donkeys years ago. Also the Goose on a few times. I know some guys that used to drink in the Pelican but I've heard that's not what it used to be. Edited July 11, 20224 yr by Boyne
July 11, 20224 yr The good old west stand turnstiles. just a point on drinking in the ground. I started going in 1978 but don’t remember if alcohol was sold in the shed back then. I remember queuing in the tea bar for tea/bovril and soft drinks. If you get in the ground now when it opens the first 30-40 mins its half price, softens the blow if it’s not the best beer!!
