A great picture of Ibrox. Am tempted to buy a copy. A few family members and a few friends will be interested. Looking forward to the one of the Bridge.

Marina wants to paint two of the bridge. One of the 1945 Moscow game with the fans on the roof of the shed. She also wants to paint 70/80s version as well.

We played Arsenal at home January 85. There had been freezing weather and in order to make the pitch playable it was covered in straw and some sort of balloon system from memory ( Bates being Bates he probably had one eye on us being the only fixture in the capital to go ahead and a bumper crowd)

The game went ahead and was a bit of a farce with straw flying around and rock hard conditions. Charlie Nicholas seemed the only player who looked comfortable I remember.

Thank you. Will look out for those. Will be buying the one of Ibrox. Two of my cousins are ST holders at Rangers and one of them owns a cafe so hopefully he'll buy a copy. Would look good in his cafe.

Might see you at the Bridge in just over a week.

Match Report of our game v Clydebank on 4th August 1967.

A crowd of about 8000 were at Kilbowie Park to see Bankies play English FA Cup finalists Chelsea in a friendly game and curtain raiser to the season.

The town council were there as were some of Chelsea's supporters who had travelled up to see their team face Aberdeen earlier in the week.

Chelsea did not win at Pittodrie and surprisingly they did not win at Kilbowie either. Both teams scored two goals and that was as far as they got.

It had threatened rain earlier in the evening but the weatherman was kind and conditions were just perfect for good football.

Football fans came from all airts and pairts of the county and from Glasgow to see the game.

Missing from the Chelsea team was former Clydebank Junior player and Scottish internationalist Eddie McCreadie. Eddie was injured in the Aberdeen game and will be out of football for a few weeks.

Kilbowie Park has been given a new look during the close season and now there are concrete steps all round the park giving fans a firmer base to jump about on.

Bankies fielded most of their new boys in this game and most of them gave a good account of themselves against a slick competent Chelsea side that looked as though it would sweep the homesters down Kilbowie Road.

But the Chelsea Blues were in for a shock. In goal for Bankies was Dick Madden, ex-Celtic and Albion Rovers - and what a night Madden had.

The top class forward line of Tambling, Cooke, Osgood and Boyle had a rough time. They threw everything at Madden but it was his night and he wasn't letting anything by.

He brought off some truly miraculous saves and if this is his form every week Bankies will have no worries. He was definitely the personality of the match with referee Tom "Tiny" Wharton coming a close second.

The first half was fairly even with both teams providing attractive football then to minutes from half time big John Baxter, former under-23 Scottish international and Hibs player, tore through the Chelsea defence to nod the ball past keeper Bonetti after it had come off the upright.

The park went wild and droves of wee boys waving Bankies scarves and tammies roared onto the park and big John was engulfed.

Both teams made changes for the second half - Russell and Moy came on in place of Rutherford and Moore and on the Chelsea side Baldwin replaced Lloyd at centre.

Bobby Tambling equalised for Chelsea in 62 minutes and then the Blues began to turn on the heat but Bankies held out.

Tommy McGhee rammed home Bankies second goal in 73 minutes after a Fleming thunderbolt rebounded off keeper Bonetti.

Bankies held on to this lead right up to the last ten minutes when Osgood, lying unmarked, hammered home a Charlie Cooke cross.

A draw was a fair result and the fans showed their appreciation to both sides by giving them a great ovation. The Chelsea players were given a Bankies style reception after the game in the new Bankies club.

Peter Bonetti 1
Marvin Hinton 2
Jim Thomson 3
John Hollins 4
Colin Waldron 5
Ron Harris 6
Charlie Cooke 7
Bobby Tambling 8
Peter Osgood 9
Barry Lloyd 10
John Boyle 11

Tommy Baldwin 12.

I always liked John Spencer that goal in Austria will long live in the memory although I do think Cas should have started the 94 cup final instead of him Bruce and Pallister had it too easy that day. Mick Harford was hard as nails and a good finisher.  As for Fleck no comment.  Always liked good old Sir Dickie people forget what a great actor he was especially in 10 Rillington Place.

Would guess this is the early 80's I can honestly say I've never wore trousers and shoes to football he looks like he's going clubbing. They are the sort of strides you had to wear to get in to almost always terrible nightclubs with dreadful music.

Never worn strides to football but worn shoes rather than trainers last ten years or so. Coming back from away games early/ mid 80s, it would have made life a lot easier if you could get in clubs with casual clobber, rather than having to go home, sharpen up and get changed.

Saying that, The Lyceum I remember had blokes wearing diamond pringles circa 82- I'd say they probably had to have a collared shirt underneath and trousers. I had a wicked pair of dogtooth check Farahs but wouldn't entertain wearing to football.

Farah's were de rigueur for any nightclub back in the day you had to have a pair even though they were semi- flared grey or blue not the black they looked like school trousers. Never went to the Lyceum my brother who's 4 years older than me used to Soulboy thing wasn't it ?.

Did a few clubs in the West End back in the day but tended to stay local cause getting home was a nightmare and unless you could fill a black cab expensive. Definitely the worse club I ever went was the Empire Leicester Square even in the mid 80's it was full of middle aged medallion men 🤣

Think that this will be of interest. Apologies if posted before. Some good stuff on the website. There are a couple of links to non-Chelsea websites and those cover football history.

One of the links from the website is this:

Will be of special interest to those who like me are interested in football and military history.

I was there when Spencer scored that goal on the break seemed to take age with those giant Austrian defenders chasing him down.

Another striker we signed around that time with Cascarino was Clive Allen,  he wasn't fast yet was a good finisher.

Certainly was. It held a good couple of thousand people. There was a bit of animosity between blacks and whites, and various crowds from different parts of London.

I'm told that various football firms used to congregate in certain areas- Chelsea under a certain balcony etc but I was too young to know the score.

Cass from West Ham said in his book that he never went there because he was too well known.

It didn't help when Greg Edwards used to stoke everyone up with his North London, West London, East London, South London shout up.

Incidently South London always got the biggest cheer. Strictly speaking they should have had a separate thing for South West and South East London but no one gave a crap.
