August 25, 20223 yr I knew a lot at my old job about 9 years ago, Arsenal, Spurs, West Ham and Palace. Palace chap went home and away, the others just home matches. Got on well with most as long as you don't try and take the pee and admit your own deficiencies it is enjoyable without any needle. I remember one chap from the West Coast of Africa who supported Arsenal yet adored Drogba.

August 26, 20223 yr I was at my brother's wedding in Ireland for this game trying to find out the result was virtually impossible. Got to the reception after about an hour I went for a slash some geezers were talking about football so I asked them the Chelsea score this was at least three hours after the final whistle.

So I'm guessing I should cancel my post that Sunday is Cesar Azpilicueta's 33rd Birthday. Thanks for the direction bluehaze.

Why would you put a current player in the vintage section and 33 is hardly old. Huth, Johnson and that Italian bloke aren't exactly Chelsea legends if it was Cooke, Harris, Webb fair enough.
August 29, 20223 yr This may be a repost, but after watching Chelsea vs City from 1986, in the you may also like column was Blackburn vs. Chelsea from 1998. What a game, and worth the watch. A few thoughts: How good was Zola! I wonder if TT could convert him to a wingback also Appears we made mistakes back then also! Hard to believe this was 24 years ago, yet only 6 years before Jose. Where has the time gone I remember watching this after work, and specifically the Laudrup cross Speaking of Laudrup, file him under players I thought would be awesome but never lived up to it (Laudrup, Stanic, Panucci, Zenden, Gronkjear, etc) Ferrer - was he the first of a long line of Spanish/Portugese full back masters (Paolo, Dave, and perhaps Cucurella) Oh Dennis Wise! Fashion always funny - some giant sleeves The tackles and appearance of the game vs. the current modern era Roy Hodgson - credit to how long he has been at the top of the game. I didn't recall him being so fiery Football was so much fun back then! Still is, but they call is nostalgia for a reason Edited August 29, 20223 yr by PhilH930

Guess Roy was brought in to get them back at the top yet it wasn't happening for him. Nice to see Flo on form with those goals.

We'd started slow in 1998/99, but this match really kick started our momentum and tilt in the title race against United and Arsenal. Flo the SUPER SUB!

Suprised to learn he only scored 13 goals in 272 appearances for us, given what a beast he was in the air. Thinking about it, time after time we'd get a free kick in our half which he would launch with his left peg towards the opposition box - it might had made sense to get him on the end of these balls, however I guess that wasn't the way we played back then. If he returned to the Bridge he'd get a hell of a reception.

The Chelsea Independent used to do the Mickey Droy top tier club anyone who cleared the ball into the top tier got in I remember Neville Southall was in it not sure he headed the ball that far surely that's impossible even for him 🤣
September 5, 20223 yr Man alive did young blokes look old in those days. Different times of course but they look like a factory team and I'm not trying to disrespect our first and at times it seemed would be our only championship winning team.
September 5, 20223 yr Highlights of our match v Everton from Nov 1969 and an interview with Charlie Cooke. Apologies if this has been already posted.

Have a look at Ralph Coates in his 30s!
