Posted June 10, 201113 yr The rummor machine cranks on every day and every day we are linked with another player i have barley ever seen (Sjnieder beingthe exception) I have however watch ashly young tear deffences appart for the last 5 years and that includes ours. Think he is a quality player, fast, direct, skillfull and can deliver dangerouse balls in to the box. Yet we have shown no interst (it's a bit worrying that we havent really been linked with any wingers yet) Are we letting united steal a march on us here by picking up a proven premiership winger
June 10, 201113 yr Author Ill remind you of that next season, good to see you have given reasons and alternatives to the player
June 10, 201113 yr yes we are off the pace............youngs very decent player in PL and has often played well against us and mancs are cleverly rotating their squad while we er.....hopefully do good business elsewhere top english players are overpriced but in the case he'd give you 5years plus
June 10, 201113 yr Ill remind you of that next season, good to see you have given reasons and alternatives to the player Many people have given many alternatives in the many other threads on this topic
June 10, 201113 yr I really rate Young, and I feel he does deserve to be at a better team than Villa (off topic, but with the Villa team of a few years back that had Young, Milner, Carew, Agbonlahor, how were they not better than they were?). However, Neymar, Sanchez, Pastore (the wingers we've been linked to) are FAR better than Young if you ask me. Good player, yes, but not as good as the aforementioned trio.

Great collection to be honest mate. Hope they find a good home, although I think you should keep them as I'm sure you'll miss them in years to come :)
June 11, 201113 yr Off the pace? How do you know that the club even wanted Young in the first place, just because Utd and Liverpool have bought players in the 1st 10 days doesnt mean we are off the pace. We have our targets, they have their targets and it's just a case of them having easier clubs to work with. When Hiddink gets announced as manager, expect business to pick up. It will give us bad press if we signed players without him in charge and it's only 10 days in, have a little patience.
June 11, 201113 yr Sheva I think what barak is suggesting is that if we weren't in for him we should have been I'm on record in a couple of other threads saying that he is a missed opportunity. I think his quality is clear, his last three performances for England have shown that. I also think that having another English based player to open up another squad space isn't at all a bad idea either. RBJ is right in that the players we are linked with Pastore, Neymar, Sanchez are better players, that's certainly true. However, Young is a safe buy, a guy who has played in the Premiership and been successful and who will be cheaper than all three of the players mentioned above by 10m pounds at least. We also have no guarantees that we will secure any of those players, and we may end up again on August 31 with nothing. I guess my chief concern is one that I and couple of other members have had a problem with for a few seasons. We seem to miss the low hanging fruit of the transfer market. We seem to ignore players of proven quality who for one reason or another are cheaper in the market in order to attempt to sign other targets. Two prime examples are our signing of Zhirkov two seasons ago for 18m when Robben and Sneijder both left Real for less than 10m. Or last summer the signing of Ramires who joined for 17m and our pursuit of Neymar for according to his agent at least 32m when Rafael Van Der Vaart joined Spurs for less than 10m and Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira joined Madrid for less than 15 each. Now of course we may have made a bid for some of the players mentioned and simply been turned down, and mine is definitely an outsiders view but VDV was offered to us according to the player's agent for 8m and we said no. If one thing emerges from our summer shakeup hopefully it will be a change in the manner our transfer policy is conducted in that respect.

June 11, 201113 yr The 15 million bid which has seemingly been accepted from Man U for an established England international, who has proven himself in the premier league, a pacey winger who consistently pitches in with around 10 goals a season and a further 15 assists is a fantastic bit of business. IMO Young is exactly the type of player who we need. I have no idea why we have not been in the running for him as he would go some way to alleviating our width and winger woes, and i would much prefer us to pay that kind of money for an established player rather that the stupid sums being spoken about for some of the relatively unproven players that we have been linked with. As an aside, it is being widely reported in the papers that if Ashely Young does go to Man U, it will mean that Nani will look to move on....what are your thoughts on the Michael Jackson lookalike heading to us? (although i think it may already be a done deal for him to move to fulham if that statue of him outside craven cottage is anything to go by)
June 11, 201113 yr Why should we make a bid for young he is not better than what we have, and he had average season for villa who were sh*t last year. Imo i don't rate him that highly and would much rather have adam johnson from citeh than ashley my head is swelling young.
June 11, 201113 yr Here's a little fact on Ashley Young: Of his 79 league assists, 32 have come from set pieces. As for the topic, no, I don't think we have missed a trick.
June 11, 201113 yr Author Spiller is correct in my thinking, we dont seem to have even blinked in his direction and my oppinion is thats a mistake. There seems to be a great love for players with fancy names that we have rarley ever seen play..They tend to have latino accents as well. I tell you I have never seen pastore play and have only seen neymar the once. He did look good but im not ready to make a judgment on how he will play in our leagye based on that one game. Somthing i mentioned when Deco joined us, there seemed to be a feeling that it would be game over for Joe cole (as it turns out Cole was on the way down any way) I mentioned that we had no idea how deco would play in the prem over a full season, in hail and rain, gael force wins and some tactles defender kicking up 3 feet up in the air every 5 minuites. As it turns out Deco was fantastic in the summer months but couldnt maintain it. Could have been his age or the culture of our football, Young is a top top player, maybe not quite as good as neymar but he is proven in this league he will create and score. He is better then malouda and zirkov in my oppinion. He is better the kaulo, nearest thing to a right winger I can think of. I find it funny that we are falling over our selves for lakuka on this forum when maybe 2 people on this forum have seen him play more then 5 games. He also playes at a standerd well below our league. If we buy him we will say good buy to danny sturdige who is a very exciting tallent who has proven he can score goals in this league, a higher level then Lukuka (how ever you spell his name) and he can do it for us given the chance. Im not saying any of these players will be bad buys but none of us have seen them play that much and cirtainly not in the prem... there is a long list of big time forighn players that have come here and failed, and a few have been at our club
June 11, 201113 yr I guess until we have a manager we won't sign anyone. Any "big" names would want to know who the manager was before they signed anyway. It's not impossible as we know from experience but the club need to sort out the manager situation if they want to sign any players.
June 11, 201113 yr Does anybody know how long hiddink is on 'holiday' for? Hopefully not like 3 weeks, because then it will be even longer till its official!

It's not impossible as we know from experience but the club need to sort out the manager situation if they want to sign any players. Wasn't it Lukakus agent who said just the other day that they wouldn't discuss anything with Chelsea until they get a manager? I think more are thinking the same way. If I were a player I wouldn't want to start negotiating with a team who doesn't have a manager. I'd want to know who would be in charge before I went there. Hopefully however we already have someone lined up to be our new manager. Perhaps Hiddink is as good as ours already, just that all the details aren't done yet and wont be until he returns from his holliday. If so, then I guess the club have already started discussing possible transfers with him and started preparing so that when he finally comes here and signs the contract the club can immediately start with selling and buying. Atleast I hope that the people in charge at Chelsea are clever enough to prepare and plan and not just sit around doing nothing.
June 11, 201113 yr IMO we missed a trick big time & Footballaholic pointed out he has 32/79 assists from set pieces, our delivery from set pieces in recent seasons has been appaling considering the aerial ability of some of our players. Not only is he multifunctional as he is very good on both wings & can also play in an advanced central position comfortably & he is one player that can hug the touchline comfortably. I think the board either have a narrow view of what a Chelsea quality player is or our scouts are not doing there job properly. However, I don't think any player will sign on without knowing who the manager is going to be & like someone pointed out, we are missing out on low hanging fruits in the transfer market. We as fans know the team currently lacks pace, creativity, width & invention & I am slightly bothered by our link with Lukaku & just pray its paper talk. IMO with a budget of £60m we could get 5 quality players (Nasri, Modric, Mata , Van Der Weil + a decent back up gk) & move on 5/6 players. Neymar might prove to be World class & a commerical success but he is just a luxury (£40m!) We don't need at the moment. If we got the aforementioned & shifted out/ used in cash + player exchage 5/6 of (Hilario/Turnbull/Ferreira/Bosingwa/Anelka/Kalou/Malouda/Benayoun) we will be more than competitive. Analysis: Nasri (£12m-£14m) : £6m + Malouda/Kalou Modric (£30m-£35m): £25m + Malouda/Anelka Mata (£18m-£20m) Van Der Weil (£8m-£10m) Max Outlay (£61m- £79m) Bosingwa (£5m-£7m) Ferreira (£2m-£3m) Hilario (nominal fee) Turnbull (£1m-£2m) Anelka (£3m- £5m) / Kalou (£6m- £9m) / Malouda (£5m-£8m) Player Sales (£14m- £19m)
June 11, 201113 yr I live in the mids and know quite a few Villa season ticket holders and they want Young to go. Apparently he's lazy and inconsistent. Woluld like us to put a bid in though to drive the price up

Interesting. Just went on to a Villa forum to get their opinion on him and this is one of the first posts I read.. Think he will be average at Man Utd, but he will be missed here. Will Fergie sort out his diabolical (recently) set-piece taking? All I know is that if you thought he went down easily at Villa, you ain't seen nothing yet. He will be hated for his diving antics in a Manure shirt.
June 11, 201113 yr There seems to be a great love for players with fancy names that we have rarley ever seen play..They tend to have latino accents as well. I tell you I have never seen pastore play and have only seen neymar the once. He did look good but im not ready to make a judgment on how he will play in our leagye based on that one game. The difference is that it's not us that have to make the decision. The club employs people to watch these people play a lot more than the few games we get to see. Obviously they will make some mistakes - everybody makes mistakes from time to time - but for the most part, they have a much better idea of which players are good enough to play here than we do, especially when considering players from leagues that we tend not to see a lot of (like Belgium and Brazil, for example). Just to highlight that point, this Piazon guy that we've signed from Sao Paulo has been followed by de Visser for the last 2 years - that doesn't seem like a decision that was taken lightly. Essentially we have two choices in this transfer window. We either take the 'safe' option; the players that are proven in the Premiership, but guys that our scouts don't think will be good enough to play for us (e.g. Young and, at a push, Sturridge). Or, we can take the 'risky' option; the players that don't have experience of our league but have shown a glimmer of something truly special (e.g. Neymar and Lukaku). Either of these decisions would be a risk - The guys in the first category may not be able to make the step up to a Champions League calibre team, while the guys in the second category may not adjust to life in England and our league. I don't think there's a right or a wrong decision here, it's just down to the approach that the board and the owner want to take. It appears that we're having a go at the second option and I, for one, support that decision. The guys we sign might end up not panning out, but they give us the best chance at getting the best players we could possibly have rather than settling for some average guys just because they're local.
