The rise and rise of Daniel Sturridge.

Featured Replies

Given we're had so many of the decline and fall threads in the past season (Lamps, Didier, Ash, JT, Petr) and the usual Torres stuff, I thought it was about time we had a place to celebrate the biggest success story of the season so far, Daniel Sturridge.

He has picked up straight from where he left off at Bolton last season, and just continues to find a way to get the ball into the back of the net. He has to almost be the first guy picked these days, and surely must be firming for not only a spot in the Euro 2012 squad but also in Capello's starting lineup.

Further to that I'd like to congratulate whoever it was who first decided to take a punt on him. With a little bit of time, he has emerged as a guy who may go on to be one of the best signings of the Abramovich era. He still has things to work on no doubt, such as developing a better right foot, but he has just been electric so far this season.

If he improves his decision- making, and learns to pass instead of shooting sometimes, the boy is going to be a world-beater. I hope it is with us.

Here Here Spiller.

I'm sure City aren't too gutted they let him go (yet!) with their wealth of options up front but maybe in another season or two they will rue they day they let him sign for us. Even so, to have a young, British striker for many seasons to come is something to be happy about.

And to think there were those who thought Kalou was a better option (surely they have since had a re-think!!)

If only Carlo had given him more opportunities instead of sticking with Kalou, Anelka, Malouda, he (Carlo) might still be at Chelsea. I know thats a big claim but I think its always about a couple of positive results during a rotten run, with Studge's spark the tide might have been turned and the 'bad moment' overcome quickly.

Knew he would become awesome even when Ancelotti didnt play him (still cant understand why on earth he wouldnt play him) and as people say if he improves his finishing and decision making over the years he will become one of the best.

My favourite player for some time now.

When we talk about the future of Chelsea, Danny is one of the lads that I hope and believe will have a long bright career here. He's been doing wonderfully for us, and I can see him getting better. He just needs to work on his decision making and finishing, as others have said.

I see him more as an impact player. I don't think he has the tactical nous to be a regular at this level. Well, not yet anyway

Ok im going to bite - taking him as an impact player, where would you currently rate the rest of our forward options, torres, drogba malouda and matta?

So you dont think he has tactical nous, yet he is being played out of position and has still been our best attacking player. Cant wait to see how good he is when he gets some tactical nous.

Sturridge gives me a rise every time he is on the ball.

Wow that's quite an admission, how does it feel to have stepped so brazenly from the closet???

Studge is doing brilliantly for us at the moment and long may it continue.

Really?? I would like to know who you think should take his 'regular' spot in the current Chelsea set up then??

He certainly still has room for imrpovement when it come to his decision making but when taking into consideration his age and the fact he is actually being played out of his prefered position and he is still our most lethal attacking player I can't see how that equates to him only being worthy of an 'impact' role.

His poitive attributes, ie. pace, skill, great first touch, creativity, bags of confidence and most importantly the fact he scores goals for fun at the moment puts him ahead of every other player at the club competing with him for a place and he is also the most likely out of all of them to keep getting better.

Holy.. are you for real on this one? Top goal scorer and more goals then our strikers put together and playing out of position.

I'd say they have the ability to modify their play if the tactics require it. ATM Sturridge looks a bit of a one trick pony to me, and offers nothing when we're defending.

Are you just on a wind-up here or are you for real?

I dont have anything to say to you if you really are serious about what you just said

Please bear in mind that people respond to you in the Torres thread and you write some right old tosh.

At the moment matta aside the others are offering nothing full stop!!!

Yeah of course I do, im the one throwing sh*t at our players all the time.

When people complain about our top scorer and one of our best players at the moment then something is clearly wrong

For me Torres HAS to be the number one striker, even if we slide down the table while he decides to start playing. We paid top money for class and we shouldn't lose our nerve over that decision. The fact that we can't incorporate him into our team says more about us than about him. Actually he's the last player I would have bought, but now that we have.....

So be it. What I've said is hardly controversial. If he doesn't turn out to be another Kalou I'll be more than happy.
