Posted January 18, 201213 yr Im not a regular down the bridge at the moment, but i went on Saturday. I know a couple of groups of season ticket holders and had a natter with them. It seems that alot are really only keeping on with getting season tickets to guarantee a place in the ground and that they regularly have spares for most matches (good news for me!) A couple also share a season ticket. How common is that? Also, the average age of our support is really high, I was in the MHL and it was all older blokes starting off the chanting. We have a low young support who actually attend games, and the ones that were around me didnt seem to properly appreciate the culture of proper support for a team and seemed happiest eating their dairylea dunkers rather than singing to support the boys. If this is typical premier league grounds WILL be like libraries in say 20 years time
January 18, 201213 yr Probably because the younger supporters cannot afford the price of a season ticket.
January 18, 201213 yr I can remember paying 2/6d to get in. Lets say thats about £5 today. Kids don't really have a chance of going unless they get a free ticket or dad/mum/uncle etc pays.
January 18, 201213 yr Yup too expensive - I think a lot of people got season tickets years ago when it was more affordable and keep them, obviously because they love it, but also because if they give up their seat they feel they won't ever be able to get it back... even if they can't afford it anymore. I think next year if the economy stays the same (and it's not looking great) there will be fewer season ticket holders.
January 18, 201213 yr I used to pay about £4 to stand on the shed as a kid(14-17yrs old) in the early nineties. I earn't £10 a week doing my paper round and even more once I had a part-time job when I turned 16.. I don't think paper rounds pay more than double the price of a match ticket these days. If they do I might get one . Seriously though, youngsters are simply priced out.

At the moment it's £15.50 for a youngster in east lower.

Yeah, you're spot on there. The family enclosure does allow youngsters accompanied by an adult. I think the east upper also has a concessionary rate for juniors £23-£25. Without trying to turn this topic into one about a ground move, that initiative would be excellent for our future fanbase. Maybe an 18-21 year old rate could be introduced in the meantime, It would kind of stagger the price increase.
January 18, 201213 yr I agree that this is an issue and as a result I will offer my services to anyone who wishes to buy me a season ticket to help rectify the problem. I know all the words to Carefree and even sing the naughty songs about exposing ourselves to Tottenham fans and tickling women inappropriately with vegetables

January 19, 201213 yr Damn it! Shedhead stole my line! They should do BOGOF tickets - If you take a girl to the match with you, she should get in free. Then BlueBeard could take TimW in in his lady clothes.

January 20, 201213 yr Probably because the younger supporters cannot afford the price of a season ticket. This. In this day and age you have to be earning to attend football matches regularly, not just earning but these days good money. I simply cannot afford to go to more than 10 games a season but go away as many times as I can
January 21, 201213 yr I prefer to be called an experienced in life codger And there was me thinking it was "old git"
January 21, 201213 yr Oh the good old days of eing able to afford the footy, When I was a kid with my junior blues membership it was a £1.00 to stand on the shed a £1.00 for a one day travel card (Capital cards back then) so basically I could go to the footy for under a fiver including burger and chips from somewhere! With my £7.00 paper round money and £5.00 pocket money once a fortnight down to the bridge was well within budget! These days with all I earn its about 6/7 times a season that is just about within budget, it's ridiculous! I take your point about the atmosphere as well, the last game I went to was against the dippers in the CC now I know the game turned out dire, but even before that the atmosphere was as flat as a pancake from our lot!
January 21, 201213 yr I was having a chat with a rugby fan last night and he told me that tickets for top level rugby games mirrored football prices and in many cases exceeded them. Came as a surprise to me.

I thought for a Carling cup game there was not a bad atmosphere at that game to start off with, all depends where you sit though doesn't it.....
