Maicon is likely to leave inter and we are being linked. Difficult as Ivanovic was one of our top players last season, however they are completely different players and it would make our squad a lot stronger. I don't want to see Ivanovic at CB but hopefully if Maicon does sign there are enough games to keep them both happy.

INteresting, no doubting Maicon is an awesome player and would strengthen any team that he joined; however, I think there are other areas we should be looking to strengthen and add to way before the RB position.

Wont happen in a million years, the guy is 31 in July and we are looking to buy younger.

If anything its Debuchy we are looking to bring in.

He's been sh*t since Mourinho left Inter and is the wrong side of 30 so no thanks.

Not fit enough to lace Bane's boots in any way, shape or form and he's apparently been linked heavily to a move back to Brazil. This move wouldn't fit our transfer policy of late, either.

Possible but unlikely. I do wonder if the reports are true that Brana does not want to be our No 1 RB, and wants to be a CB and RB only in emergencies.

If that became the case would he get ahead of Luiz and Cahill to partner JT short term? Would he sit back and wait a few more years for JT to take a back seat?

Though given Paulo's age and Bos leaving, we could do with a new RB.

It would be beyond illogical to elevate Bran ahead of Luiz and Cahill. They're both much better center halves than he is.

Pass on Maicon, please... No need to add this guy at 31 next season... No point really! Rather us give Kane/Hutch the back up. May not have the proven pitch time but they're both still young and could be a Maicon by the time they are 26+

Probably his agent looking to restructure a deal to cash out, since he is near the end of his career. I doubt anybody at Chelsea is looking at him!

I say go for it.

We need an attacking right back in the absence of Bosingwa (assuming Todd Kane isn't ready to assume that kind of responsibility yet) and there are few better in the business than Maicon. He is certainly an upgrade on Bosingwa; I certainly wouldn't complain about another world-class attacking player (a Champions League and Serie A winner, no less) joining the team (I'd imagine he wouldn't cost a great deal) and at 31 he would only be a short-term measure, which removes a lot of the risk. He is also physical and pacy, so the 'lightweight' argument doesn't hold a lot of sway.

If we get Maicon at the top of his game then he will improve the team and probably be the best right back in the league.

If he flops, then we still have the excellent Ivanovic, and Maicon can leave quietly after two years with a wedge in his pocket.

Imagine a right-hand side of Maicon and Ramires, they would terrorize absolutely anyone.

That would depend on Robbie, and how well he can judge Maicon if he talks to him. If he has enough fire left in his belly then he was once a great RB.

As you said a couple of years of him at his pomp would be a good option, but whether he has that left in the tank or not I do not know.

31 is not old, he had an injury last year, still a fantastic attacking alternative to ivanovic.. I wouldn't be displeased if we signed him!

Being injured last year might be a valid excuse if he hadn't been awful for the past two years.

Maicon's no longer the presence in attack he once was and his defending has slipped even further, despite always being subordinate to his attacking prowess. He's only had 12 assists in the past two years combined and his two year total of 4 goals is nearly a third of Ivanovic's total (11) over the same time period.

...and the Premiership is a much quicker paced game too... Can't see him covering the guys on Utd, Arse, and City... For me he's past his prime and we have no use for a player like that. Unless he comes very cheap but I doubt that... He will sign in to a Brazilian club or even MLS for the money. I still think this is all bullshyte anyway. Just his agent drumming up interest! Don't need him, imo.

Is he?

I seem to remember Bale tearing him a new asshole in the CL.

Bale is frighteningly quick though, he could probably outpace every right back in the world. He played into Bale's hands in that game, pushed too high up and allowed Bale to just knock it 30 yards and turn on the afterburners. Bad tactics overall.

Personally i don't think this is a signing that will happen because i generally think (hope actually) that we are after Debuchy. Younger and more consistent.

He's the second best right back in the world. He is also the only one who gets anywhere near the best one.

Not a young man anymore, but the 34 year old striker who won us the CL, wasn't so bad was he?

That said I find myself torn given that Branna has been immense for us over the past couple of seasons.

Thank you for proving your ignorance for me. Watch a little bit of football from around the place before you start dismissing other people's opinions.

Cant believe people want this, we are already classed as an "aging squad" by our rivals and spending money on a 31 year old right back would just be stupid when there is young talent out there - Debuchy being just an example.

Just no!
