SimonH Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 So...... We have seen the arrival of Hazard, Marin & Oscar. We will probably still see Moses, the guy I still can't pronounce his name until i hear someone say it on sky sports next year (rb) and maybe, just maybe, a new striker and we are good to go. However, over the last few days I have been more concerned with who is leaving us rather than who is joining (strange I know) but we need to reduce the adverage age of the team and also for the wage bill and squad submissions. Tbh, I will be more than happy seeing two of the following 3 be moved on before the window closes. 1. Ferreira 2. Benayoun 3. Malouda What are your opinions on who needs to be moved on?
Damo810 Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Rumours of Miereles on the way to Napoli for 8M. Him and the above and I would be happy for this year.

Eggy McMuffin Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 I think with Moses we don't need a striker, both him and Mata can cover the striker spot if needed and with Sturridge and Torres being our main strikers I think we have enough there, even with Lukaku on loan. So two more signings in Moses and Azpilicueta. KDB, Josh and Lukaku on loan. Ferreira, Benayoun, Malouda and one of Essien or Meireles is us done. I'd prefer to see Essien leave rather than Meireles, because I think Meireles offers us more, but £8m is a good offer.

You do know we normally play 1 up from and Mata is about 4ft 11 or something????? We have normally had about 4 or 5 strikers on the books at any one time.. we now have 3. And Lukaku is defo being loaned so feck that make it 2. We need another addition and now.

sals Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 I cannot understand why everyone wants Yossi out so badly. The style of football we will be playing this season, not to mean our highly congested fixture list means taht he will be a perfect squad player. Will be able to cover on either wing or behind the striker, he doesen't complain about being on the benchand I can't imagine his wages are too high. He is also a very useful player

What are we going to do with all the strikers? We play with one up front, having 3 strikers in the team means that two are on the bench and therefore unhappy. If we loan Lukaku out we'll have two, but if we buy a new one we'll have four strikers next season, all of whom are excellent players (Torres has shown it before and Sturridge/Lukaku both have the potential) competing for one spot. That's not healthy, it bloats our squad and wage bill, will probably cause one or two of them to leave, and is a huge waste of talent. It really annoys me that people keep calling for another striker.

Ah yes, because we never had too many in the past. Drogba, Torres, Anelka, Sturridge. Even if we count Drogba as two strikers because he was that much of a beast, both Sturridge and Anelka were mainly used on the wing. Even then Anelka was seen as surplus to requirements. We go back a few years, lets say our title win in 05/06 just as an example of a well balanced squad. We had Drogba, Crespo, Eidur and Carlton Cole. Eidur mainly played in midfield that season, though and Carlton Cole only really got chances in the cup games, but did provide some cover. So yeah, we've had more strikers, but Torres, Sturridge and two versatile options to cover is enough for me. 12 appearances including cup games that Cole made that season, I can see Moses and Mata being up to that between them. We might even play Bamford in some of the cup games, though. I just think that signing a striker would be too much. I just can't see a way that it'd work out well for us this season or going into the future where we'd like to see Lukaku playing more.
icecoolguy22 Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 No chance Ferreira is leaving, he will retire with us, dont mind him since he plays few games a year and usually put in a good shift. Malouda should be going, but I don't think he will, wage relaed? Yossi should go, dont know why he is still around, no takers? If we get a decent offer, don't mind Mereiles go as well, so we can keep Josh at the club for the season.
BelgradeCFC Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Malouda out, Hulk in. Meireles or Essien out if price is ok. Benayoun out if Moses or Hulk are in. Another RB would be good but I think we need natural right winger more than a right back.
ewitkows Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 In the past we played more 4-3-3 and needed more strikers. Plus I think Piazon makes the team.
plamf Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 (edited) Meireles has been very poor compared to Liverpool but I'm not sure we can afford to get rid of him. We will basically have no central midfield left. I don't understand why RDM has spent all his money on attacking midfielders/wingers. They won't even fit in the same team. Yeah, it's definitely been Di Matteo that has spent the money....

So with Lampard, Oscar, Mikel, Romeu, Essien, Meireles and Ramires (although he'll spend most of his time on the right ) fighting for two spots this season there is no room for any departures. Not to mention KDB and Josh to be returning from loan next year.
Fearnley Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 I don't think Ferreira will be allowed to leave he must have some special role in the club whether it be some sort of coaching or maybe a go to between the portugese/ brzazilian contingent
evissy Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 I think Paulo will remain at Chelsea as he is the perfect squad player and perfect ambassador for the club. He's survived the axe so many times there has to be a reason. Malouda, Meireles are the two I'm glad to see leave. I'm such a huge Ess fan I'd choose him over Meireles although it is a huge risk. I also think we don't need another striker if Moses is coming. Torres, Danny and makeshift's are enough.

To be fair, Liverpool utilized Meireles in a more forward role than Chelsea did playing him in a deeper defensive role. So personally, playing out of position and giving us fine performances down the stretch in the Champions League, I think he did alright. I agree with you and think he should stay. Its a shame people on here continue to bash the guy for a few times he came up short, as if he were the only one on the squad to do so... Even more amazing is that some idiot even had to create a thread to do so... Edited August 11, 2012 by DoubleHelix74

He is a decent squad player to have about there is no doubt about that but there are many faults to his game and now he is just taking up a place that someone like mceachran could be occupying
evissy Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 We have bought 3 players from L*verpool recent years and to be fair no one has really lived up to expectations. To compare in Essien we have a brilliant player(at best) who is probably very ready to play a smaller role due to his recent injuries to Meireles who is okay. Same goes with Benayoun. We need guys who are able to push for the spot and not someone who you only play when the main man is injured or too tired to play. Okay and decent won't win you trophies.
DoubleHelix74 Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 No doubt decent does not win trophies... And I wouldn't lose sleep if Raul was shipped out, especially if that rumor of him going to Napoli as part of a Cavani deal. However, the point I was trying to make is that while he did not play well at times, it hardly warrants some of the harsh criticism he has received. Most if not all players struggled at some point last season so why are some only singling out Meireles?
Fearnley Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Mikel after today what a howler that guy has had! Bring in m'villa
That Boy Brandinho Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Mikel after today what a howler that guy has had! Bring in m'villa Jesus wept. I was going to post Mikel as a sarcastic response because of what's going on in the match thread, but I see now that I'm too late.

Lol I could find a list of reasons other than today's game to suggest why we should get someone more suited to the role...the dynamics are not right between him and lampard one has to be dropped and I feel getting a more dynamic DM would not be such a bad thing in terms of versatility. We badly need legs in midfield otherwise our defence is going to succumb to pressure all day and pressure breeds mistakes
