Chelsea fans...

Featured Replies

I have posted something similar on another thread in the rumours section, however i thought i would start a new thread in order to better gauge opinion and focus on this specific issue regarding the conduct of some of our fans and forum contributers.

Unfortunatly, It is becoming a rather common theme that some so called "supporters" are turning on our players and spitting out vitriolic abuse, baseless allegations, and general nastiness.

Chelsea fans of yesteryear were known to be a classy bunch, who got behind their team and supported their  players through thick and thin, the good times and the bad. I was always proud of this....however this doesnt seem to be the case at the moment with a section of our fans, who seem more interested in dishing out personal abuse and character assasinations of some people at our club. Some of the recent comments i have been reading on here would sound more at place coming out of a rival fans mouth or out of the gutter press.

I am keen to understand the thinking behind the people dishing out this abuse. What benefit do they think it will have? Why are they turning football related issues and opinions into personal attacks? What is the general feeling towards these type of fans and forum contributers by other more reasonable contributers?

My view is that  many posters on this forum need to take a good hard look at themselves. We do not need to like every player at the club. We do not need to think that the club is well run. We do not need to like our clubs operating model, we do not need to delude ourselves into thinking that our players are the best or that we have a right to be successful.....I agree that we have every right to demand more of our players and our club in times of difficulty. We have every right to vent our frastrations at the board/management/playing staff and we have every right to expect the players to try their best at all times...And if a player isnt giving his all, then they should rightly be given a metaphorical kick up the backside.

However when does it become ok to start spitting such venom at our players? In the recent weeks there has been various classless comments on this forum wishing death on the interim and hoping he dies in a plane crash, various comments about  wishing a player to get the sh*t kicked out of him, comments calling a player a "shemale, and various comments deeming certain people to be  a "Cancer on this club . In my view this goes beyond football opinion and is uncalled for, mindless and classless abuse. I believe that such vitriolic and hate filled  comments should have no place on this forum or in our club.

I would love to see a return (or re-emergence) of the classy fans that we used to be renowed for.

Looking forward to read peoples thoughts.....

All the best

Well sorry to rain on your parade as one of those people you are no doubt referring to but I have seen fans say worse things. I have been at games and watched our fans call the likes of wenger and Paul Robinson 'peados', I have seen them sing songs about Munich and the busby babes at Utd games. The beautiful thing about football is we are all allowed our own opinions and if you are too sensitive to deal with those then there is an ignore function. I hardly think referring to Torres as a she male or a cancer at the club are really that big of a deal, they are said out of a frustration born upon current events. The division between fans is a division of principles, some fans want to get behind the club others want blood for the sacking of RDM and the appoinent of fsw. I am of the latter and think Torres is some of that blood that needs to be spilled to bring balance to the club.

Use the ignore tool to block out the fans who are stepping over the line (your line).

That will stop me reading such posts, but will not offer any greater understanding of why such comments are made in the first place.

In any case, my view is that the onus is not on anyone offended by such comments (not that i am offended, i just think they are tasteless and unneeded on a football forum where people come to talk/discuss football) to turn a blind eye or ignore such behaviour. What kind of logic is that? Should a person ignore racist behaviour if they see it going on?

So referring to Torres as a 'she-male' on a Chelsea fans forum is going to 'spill blood' and somehow get justice for the sacking of Di Matteo?

I don't think it does anything at all mate, just gives rival fans something to laugh about, nothing more....

No Torres being sold will be justice, to take your words how does posting an option on a Chelsea fans forum give rival fans something to laugh at? Nevermind the fact that they have sang songs about him being half a boy half a girl for years anyway! I just think people are being too sensitive in all honesty it's a nothing insult getting blown out of proportion

Why would rival fans laugh at how Chelsea fans have resorted to verbal attacks on one of our own players?

Do you really need help with that one?

It is the sort of material fans thrive on and it shows a complete lack on unity on our part.

I understand where your'e coming from (nonotnowjim), I tend not to use personal insults against our players or staff* (or other forum users despite being on the receiving end a few times), but I wouldn't want to try and impose my own standards on other people.

*this doesn't apply to the interim manager though, like many others I can't accept him as part of my football club.

Yes I do, obviously we get the odd rival fan on our site but its not like we are a hot spot for the masses! We aren't suddenly going to get thousands of mancs, scouser and the like coming on here and laughing Jesus wept! Rival fans know there is a lack of unity at the club, they only have to watch one game and hear there is only one di matteo of f**k off rafa

Personally, I think we all need to have a group hug.

Emotions have been running high these last few weeks and certain comments have to be taken in that context.

Obviously Fernando Torres and Rafael Benitez (to give them their proper names) have taken some flak, and others have disliked it.

We have to remember we're all Chelsea and not hold grudges against each other.

This thread shouldn't degenerate into a mud-slinging exercise ..

And if anyone disagrees with me they're a w**ker.

You really are above us all aren't you?

Who do you think you are calling peole "so called supporters" because they don't happen to post things on a forum that fit with what you feel is some sort of classy behaviour?

I and many other people who detest the Interim have supported this Club for more than fourty years and never needing telling by someone on a forum or anywhere else how they should show their support.

I think the lack of class is more noticable in blind support of the way the Club is run because the owner has a lot of money, blind support even when that owner (who means nothing to us as we mean nothing to him) sacks a manager who has given us the biggest trophy ever and managed the club to a reasonable standard while integrating new players and playing a striker who is badly out of form because he is afraid to drop him.

As for anybody calling Torres a girl or whatever you're supposedly worried about, I and I think any other fans that may dig him out on here, certainly wouldn't do that at a game where we are still willing him to do well.

The Interim however deserves the abuse and abusing him in my opinion will not have any effect on the team.

I can see where he's coming from though. I've actually managed to attract a stalker. Not content with having a go at me for disagreeing with his posts about the interim manager, this person has now resorted to insulting me when quoting my replies to another poster who is very possibly a Liverpool fan in disguise.

I’m not sure you can disguise a Liverpool fan.

To my mind their big curly hair and huge moustaches are a bit of a giveaway, especially on the ladies.

You make a good point. What's surprising is how many Liverpool and Man U fans have come here recently claiming to be Chelsea fans. Tell you what, make up your own mind. This is the post I replied to:

by the same genius logic robbie won it with AVB's team so robbie shouldnt get the glory cmon wake up! cant believe some of the drivel here. Some of you fans are the reason why were hated so much..

And this was my reply, the one that so upset my stalker:

"Some of you fans" would no doubt include myself. I'm not so sure about you though. Not at all. Your opinion of those of us who refuse to give our support to the current interim manager mirrors the same cretinous, failed logic beloved among Liverpool supporters in particular.

Get to the heart of the matter and the crux of their argument is as follows: The current interim manager was manager of Liverpool when they last won the Champions League. He is therefore a legend on Merseyside, never mind that he lost the plot towards the end of his reign at Anfield, or that it took next to no time for Inter Milan to realise their mistake, or that it's taken him so long to find another job. That's all been conveniently forgotten. His record shows that he was the manager of the Liverpool team that won the Champions League in 2005 and we should therefore be grateful of his services

By any standards, as logic goes, it's a load of bollocks.

As for "being hated so much" If you don't like it, then I suggest you find some other team to support. That's if you haven't already done so.

While I agree in some cases, we are fans. We spend a huge amount of money on the club. We partly have a right to express our opinions. I must of spent at least £1000 last year on Chelsea and while I would happily spend double that, I feel it gives me a right to express my opinion (a fair one I like to think).

I've seen some posters say they hope we lose the club world cup so we don't add to rafas CV. That goes past the line I think and if any other football fan read that, I would be embarrassed personally.

I’d have to agree with you Tommy, there does seem to be a small infestation of supposed Chelsea fans popping up here, the majority being easy to spot.

The quotes you refer to I had already read previously with a raised eyebrow or two so I know where ya coming from.

Just keep posting your drivel mate as I and I’m sure others find it insightful even if it’s not always agreed with.

Well, sorry you have taken that view Chippy. As a long term poster on this forum i welcome your opinion and views, and am a bit dissapointed you have taken offense to my points, which i tried to make with justification and reasoning.

I certainly have not attacked any individual poster, mereley pointed out my view that such tasteless comments are not warranted. I also asked peoples views in a bid to understand the desire/need to resort to such comments. Whilst i disagree with the need of mindless bashing, wishes of death, character assasinations - etc, i certaintly dont wish to portray that i am "above you"...

I dont know you, however i would guess that you initially joined a Chelsea forum to discuss Chelsea football club and its players. I wouldnt be so confident that you joined to read about bangkok chickboys or other mindless bashing.

I agree....100%. As i expressed in my OP, we are perfectly entitled to vent our frustrations, anger etc.....

However...my view is that some people have surpassed giving opinion and have lowered themselves to a standard of support i would expect from other clubs. Is calling Torres a Shemale an opinion? Is wishing a plane crash and death on the FSW  (which would  have wiped out 300+ innocent people) an opinion?....  I would suggest not and that it is just hateful vitriol which is not really pertinent to a football discussion site.

My drivel? Nice to be appreciated I'm sure.

Just to reiterate, the point of my previous post wasn't so much about the possible scouser or his right to his own opinion, but about the stalker, whose resorted to personal insults and snide little digs not only when his own posts are disagreed with, but now when other people - such as this possible scouser - are disgreed with.

This stalker of mine has his tongue so far up the interim manager's arse, it must be painful for the pair of them.

Does that mean there are no posts about bangkok chickboys
