I think basically courtois has told chelsea I'm the number one and if he's not he will want a transfer. I heard that awhile back if my memory serves me right

If he said that then transfer him immediately. Getting a bit big for his own gloves if that's the case.

Why would a classy keeper not want a transfer if he's not going to be number 1?

He has every right to ask that after what he has done on loan already

Told Chelsea. Not asked.

Cech helped us win the CL while Cortouis was on loan and he wants to come back and tell us he will be number 1 or he's off?

No thanks. Everyone is saying Cech must accept fighting for his place but apparently Cortouis is ok to leave if he doesn't get the number 1 spot?

Cechs proved himself too. At THIS club.

In an ideal world I agree. But all of the top clubs will be looking to sign him and guarantee making him no 1. If say Real Madrid come in and say join us as our No.1, he is hardly going to say no, I'll stay at Chelsea and hope to get some games.

Doesn't the same also apply to Cech though? Either way we are losing a world class keeper who will unquestionably improve the club he joins.

Yeah but one has a decade or more to offer.

Short term thinking if we let him go

Maybe cech said the same considering Carlo was our number one and a golden glove winner and got dropped straight away. It's a tough position being a keeper only one spot up for grabs. He don't want to waste hes ability sitting on the bench

Hopefully courtois signs a new 5 year deal, and goes back to atheltico for season, which will help us in the Costa negotiations.

After that cech will be nearly 34 and hopefully more willing to share game time for a season before courtois takes the reigns the following year.

He can ask the club in private, what he shouldnt do is come out in the press stating it.

No doubt but then he probably feels disrespected by the club after seasons of great performances have resulted in zero chances for him.

We are terrible with our young talent, I can easily see the day where they stop coming here as its always the same. Loan...loan..sell

Like hazard, oscar, azpilacueta, schurle etc? Also young players getting plenty of game time.

Fair point, and I am under no delusions about keeping both of them for the long-term. I just think that Cech has arguably been our most consistently high-level performer out of anyone throughout the Abramovich era and believe that he should be given a chance to defend his place in the team. While Courtois couldn't really have been any more impressive during his stint at Atletico and has unquestionably earnt a crack at displacing Cech, Petr has shown time and again that he raises his game for the big occasion, which on the one hand means that he may well win the battle for the #1 shirt and also that at peak performance he is the best goalkeeper on the planet. Obviously I am biased but I consider Cech to be the best goalkeeper of the past decade (other than Buffon) and certainly the best Chelsea goalkeeper of my lifetime and I would be loathe to throw that kind of talent away without thinking. If Courtois is too impatient (or perhaps entitled?) to scrap it out with Cech for even a season then I would be disappointed.

More I see of courtois the more I think we need him in this team next year. Don't balls this one up please chelsea. This decision is almost as critical as the new striker in the summer. Courtois needs to be starting that first game of next season!

As good as Courtois has been for Athletico, theres is no way Chelsea are going to tell him hes in number one choice for next season. Jose will give his " It takes 3-6 months to get intergrated into the Chelsea Way " and that will be that.

Not a chance. It's a decision to be made 5 years too early.

Cech went straight in as our number one

Im sure you can reel off an endless list of players that we have signed who havent had to endure a transition period. But when you are in a position where you have a perfectly competent, tried and tested in the premier league goal keeper are you really going to let him go on the off chance that the up and coming challenger to his crown will fit straight in?

That was only because Cudicini got injured as I recall? Then Cech came in and played so ridiculously well that he made himself undroppable.

I'm not on about an endless list of players I'm on about Carlo was our number one with plenty of premiership experience and cech took he's place with no premiership experience. He adapted because he's a top keeper and courtiois is a top keeper so he will adapted aswell. If we sell courtois I hope we don't regret it. Cech was and still a key player but time stays still for nobody. I'd love courtois to be cech's under study but he's to good for that

Casillas has had to sit on the Real Madrid bench for over a season now. If Cech feels strongly towards the club, then he will, at the very least, stay to compete with Courtois for the No1 spot without complaining.

The challenger has got experience in a top league for 3 seasons

He's also experienced champions league football as well

I'm not saying he will be world class from the of (he probably wont)

He will need a transition period but the club will reap the benefits after he settles in

A good example of this is De Gea who I think is turning out to be a great keeper (has got a blunder in him though)

I'm not sure if your right or wrong don't matter point is cech took he's chance and courois would do the same.

Ok you win. Your point is more valid than my point.
