July 8, 201412 yr Don't care to justify your claim then? That he isn't as quick at the top end wingers in football? What would you like me to do to justify it? It's my opinion after all....
July 8, 201412 yr Bluedave, in this situation I would much prefer to hear that kind of 'bland insecure bollocks' as you describe it rather than him constantly bleating on about his situation to the press and mentioning other clubs, yes. In what way is it 'insecure' out of interest?
July 8, 201412 yr He's still one of our very quickest players, if he's not fast then who in our team is? I could name scores of slower wingers over the years who've had great success. I can understand the close control bit of course but his pace is precisely where he compensates for that. Edited July 8, 201412 yr by Teritus

I can understand the close control bit of course but his pace is precisely where he compensates for that. I don't think he's particularly quick, certainly not as quick as Salah or Willian, Hazard I'm not sure as he has the clsoe control and ability to not need speed as his main asset.
July 8, 201412 yr Mo, So, no Lukaku for you then? Oh I'd love to have him come. I regularly follow recruiting for my University of Texas Football (American) team and consistently see kids that want to start as freshmen/sophomores and choose a school based on that. Generally these kids have a sense of self entitlement and flame out. Back in the 1970s we had a coach Darrell Royal who would consistently get the best kids out of Texas to fight it out for playing time. We ended up winning three national championships in 8 years. I'd prefer having players who want to challenge themselves. Lukaku seems like he wants the keys handed to him prior to proving he knows how to drive. Sure he has done well at Everton and West Brom, but this isn't Everton. This is Chelsea. We should have two world class players fighting. PSG - Ibra, Cavani Bayern - Mandzukic, Muller Citeh - Aguero, Dzeko, Jovetic Monaco - Falcao, James Real Madrid - Benzema, Morata Liverpool - Suarez, Sturridge Again, my opinion is bring him on and let him and Costa fight it out for playing time, sell Ba and let Torres ride the pine. July 8, 201412 yr Hmm can't agree as he just doesn't have the pace or ball control to make it as a top winger IMO. I thought he played pretty well when through the middle Schurrle do not have pace? dafuq?
July 8, 201412 yr Mo, That's all dandy. However, since Chelsea brought Costa in, I don't think Lukaku has a chance to play in many games. Therefore, I see him out of the club.

Close with Salah, I definitely think he's quicker than Willian. Speed is very much one of his main assets.

We usually play between 50 and 60 games per season, I think lukaku could easily make 20 starts and 20 sub appearances. It wouldn't be that many minutes less than he played at Everton.

What happens if Costa gets injured first game of the season or suffers a loss of form? Top clubs need at least two top strikers, Jose himself made this point many times last year. Lukaku appears not to want to fight for his place , with this attitude he will flatline in abilitywise, far too content to be top dog of a smaller team than chance his arm to improve himself under the best coach in Europe.
July 8, 201412 yr All your above comments I agree with. You just need to tell it to lukaku. As I posted, Lukaku is going to play with some other club. I even doubt that he is willing to extend his contract with Chelsea.

I even doubt that he is willing to extend his contract with Chelsea. I don't really see where he can say no though. He is under contract to play for us for the next 2 years. Maybe he wants to sign an extension and maybe he doesn't. I am not one for forcing players to play but what is he going to do if we say, "You are not the first choice at the start of the season. You can leave next summer if you are not satisfied but for this year you will be the back-up. Prove yourself and earn the spot or play hard for a new contract somewhere else." How can he play for another club if we don't authorize it? We have no real reason to sell him now. I think we need him as a back-up more. I think the one thing everyone can agree on is that we cannot loan him out again. That would serve no purpose.
July 8, 201412 yr Sean, How can you force him to stay with Chelsea & tell him to be a backup? What's that gonna bring for the club? I know, one discontented player. Why don't you just wait and see.

We can force him because he is under contract to play for us. Or he can play in the reserves for a year or two and lose out on millions on any future contract he signs with another team. Why would he do that? Why wouldn't he just play for a season as a back-up with an eye to maybe proving himself better than Costa. If he does that he comes out looking all the better for it not only at Chelsea but for any other team that tries to buy him if he still wants to leave. This seems like a win-win for both parties.
July 8, 201412 yr Mo, Because of his contract you want to have one discontented player on the roster? Lol.
July 8, 201412 yr Mo, Because of his contract you want to have one discontented player on the roster? Lol. Well if I signed a contract to work with a hospital for 2 years and a year in they hired another surgeon that was getting more OR time than me because of lower infection rates, I couldn't walk into the CEO and state I won't work for him anymore. Life doesn't work as such.
July 8, 201412 yr He's the complete striker though....apart from his first touch.....his heading....his hold up play
July 8, 201412 yr Mo, It appears that in football it does. It worked for Lukaku last season. You are comparing incomparable.
July 8, 201412 yr Mo, It appears that in football it does. It worked for Lukaku last season. You are comparing incomparable. So what are the point of contracts in football?
July 8, 201412 yr Mo, It appears that in football it does. It worked for Lukaku last season. You are comparing incomparable. Last year we were apparently okay with loaning him out to a better club than West Brom and both the player and the coaching staff saw that this would be a good step in his development (assuming the quotes regarding Lukaku requesting and Mourinho acquiescing are correct). I hope this season sees us taking a different approach with him. While he might not be good enough yet to start for us, I believe he has the markings of a solid bench option for this season. He is under contract and I hope the team keeps him so that he could become an impact sub in Champions League/Premier League games and a starter in the cup games. Edited July 8, 201412 yr by SeanWB
July 8, 201412 yr All I see is opinions based on speculation. I or any of you don't know what is going to happen with Lukaku. There's no doubt about his quality as a backup, but is he willing? No contract will force him to play willingly & that's the bottom line here.
