July 7, 201412 yr Id honestly wish José kept him on for the year regardless. Unless a stupid offer comes along just have him on the bench and use him when Costa needs a rest, have him earn his minutes We have to sell though if he doesnt sign an extension as his value will nose dive with only a year left on his contract.
July 7, 201412 yr His value has already nosediwed. He has a poor WC and with Costa coming it doesnt seem like Mourinho values him, nobody is going to pay what hes "worth"

We simply have to either sell him or get him to sign a new deal this summer. He will still fetch between 20-25 million easily since he has scored plenty of goals in England at Everton and West Brom while only being 21. Edited July 7, 201412 yr by RFC_CFC
July 7, 201412 yr I don't think we should get rid of him. He has had two good seasons on loan so far in the premier league. Mourinho obviously sees something in him if he's willing to keep him next season, and that's the most important thing. I don't think we should be offloading a young, talented striker so quickly, especially considering the dire situation we have with them currently. We made a mistake selling sturridge; we surely aren't mad enough to let a situation like that happen again.
July 7, 201412 yr I don't think t's a case of wanting to let him go, I, like most Chelsea fans I know, want him to stay and fight for his place in the starting 11..... but that seems to be the part that is the stumbling block for Lukaku. From his constant bleating about what is 'right for him' etc combined with the fact he chose to go out on loan last season when Jose sad he wanted him to stay it appears he wants to be guaranteed a place in the starting 11, whether that is at CFC or somewhere else. He has certainly done enough to prove his worth in the squad competing for his place but, for me, he hasn't don enough to be considered good enough to lead the line for us on all fronts. Regardless no outfield player should be guaranteed a place in the starting 11, it's bollocks really. Look at recent years we have had the likes of Drogba/Crespo/Gudjohnson sharing the responsibility and more recently Drogba/Anelka with great success and these were established and experienced players with a stock far high than Lukaku so I see no reason why we should be making any guarantees to him or anyone else. There will be plenty of opportunities if he has the desire and confidence in himself to prove it at a top, CL level club like Chelsea..... if he aint happy with that then he can shut the door on his way out as far as I am concerned and get back to a mid-table club (no disrespect) who would be willing to offer him a guaranteed place n their starting 11. No club interested in him will pay that. Its going to be roughly what we got from Sturidge I reckon and maybe half next year. Thats not enough for a club like us to desperately sell. We would be better off having him as a super sub for two years Edited July 7, 201412 yr by Xfaxtor

Thats not enough for a club like us to desperately sell. We would be better off having him as a super sub for two years How is he not? He's a proven goalscorer in England and that's the price these days just look at what Southampton got for their players for starters. Why can we not get 20-25 million for a 21 year old striker who has contnually scored in England at clubs like Everton? We certainly won't get that if he doesnt sign a new deal though and is loaned out or used as a sub.
July 7, 201412 yr I reckon we could about £20M for him at the moment, that would be about right in todays market in my opinion.
July 7, 201412 yr First player in years who talks so much sh*t over his parent club. Is he dumb or just young and dumb? Not a humble bone in his body. One year with Jose would do a world of good to him but I'm not sure if I want to see him here...he says he wants to win trophies so the best destination is Jose and Chelsea but his playing possibilities are limited with Torres and Costa.
July 7, 201412 yr His big mouth won't sit well with Jose. I just don't see him in the club. As for him to sign an extension, he won't at least I doubt it.
July 7, 201412 yr "Romelu likes to speak. He’s a young boy who likes to speak. But the only thing he didn’t say is why he went to Everton on loan. That’s the only thing he never says. And my last contact with him was to tell him exactly that. Why do you never say why you are not here? So it’s something he should (talk about) because he likes to speak " - Jose Mourinho 2013
July 7, 201412 yr He wants to be a starter at a top club yet that will never happen currently. Everton and West Brom are his level just now, the sooner he realises this the better. I mean a 19 year old who only had 3 months football took his place in the World Cup....that speaks volumes. The Kid needs to actually work for his chance.
July 7, 201412 yr I reckon hes going to leave given his comments. I think its telling the clubs are who are supposedly interested in him - Everton, Spurs etc. They are all lower, non CL teams. Maybe thats a sign that the top clubs don't think hes good enough.

In one ear and out the other, the money has gone to his head and he thinks he can rule the roost without biding his time and earning his place. He's just a mug really.
July 7, 201412 yr Says it all really doesnt it? In one ear and out the other, the money has gone to his head and he thinks he can rule the roost without biding his time and earning his place. He's just a mug really. So many Chelsea fans were really hoping he would succeed for us but the boy just keeps on coming out with really frustrating comments and it's left a lot of us feeling a bit burned out by him despite only having started 1 league game in a Chelsea shirt. I would still have him as back up to Costa next season but if he does leave I can't say that I particularly care anymore.

We certainly won't get that if he doesnt sign a new deal though and is loaned out or used as a sub. He wont get that because the teams who might be interested in him dont have that kind of money. He made it clear that he wants to be a starter and his sense of entitlement is enough to put teams off who might look at him as an investment in the future. If hes sold I cant see us getting more then 15 atm, maybe more with incentives. Theres quite a bit of difference from this situation to the english players Southampton had that were among their key performers. They fought tooth and nail to keep them which is why the price became what it was.
July 7, 201412 yr I can see nothing particularly offensive in the NBC quote. Lukaku is a 21-year-old man who has just come off an incredibly tiring season with Everton and then Belgium. Has he had a break since last summer? He is clearly ambitious and wants to win trophies. He wants not only to play, but to play for a club which can match his ambitions, and I think it goes without saying that Chelsea are one of the very few clubs in the world who can provide that for him. If we were that interested in having him on board, we would be buttering him up just like we are doing with Courtois. Instead he has spent two seasons out on loan scoring goals, comfortably outperforming the alternatives we managed to muster up, whose inability to do exactly what Lukaku was doing was ultimately the reason we didn't win the title. He has spent the last two seasons doing everything we have asked of him: first scoring goals with West Brom where his main service came from Chris Brunt (!), and then scoring goals with Everton, who have a completely contrasting style of play. There isn't really a great deal more he could have done to prove himself, yet we have just gone out and bought a new £30m+ striker, and the noises coming out of the club (and some fans) are more of the 'grow up you stupid boy' variety, rather than the more appropriate 'Good Lord you are our young superstar in exactly the position in which we have had an absolute nightmare for the past three years, come home and come home soon so we can become worldbeaters together'. If we wanted Lukaku to declare his undying loyalty to the club we should probably have made it clear to him that the club sees him as part of our future. When he joined he said he wanted to become a Chelsea legend; I don't know what (if anything) has changed since then, but I can't imagine it was because he was dazzled by the bright lights and vertiginous thrills of West Bromwich... Granted he is a little full of himself, but he is an extremely talented and extremely young player who is trying to get noticed and whose ambitions are to play at the highest level; is it really that surprising? He is about to make one of the biggest decisions of his life, one which may define his career, and he says he wants to take some time over it and discuss it with his family. Doesn't sound all that unreasonable to me.
July 7, 201412 yr The way he made Jose out to be the reason he left Chelsea was unreasonable and not coming out and actually telling the truth was pretty 'unreasonable'. He might have talent but he's not half as good as he thinks he is. He's very raw and a 19 year old had to take his place in the world cup so really that alone should remind him he's not ready or currently good enough to play as a starter for a top club. Ambition I don't have a problem with but down right ignorance and arrogance I detest in footballers.

July 7, 201412 yr He is 21 by the way. Not 19. He is ambitious. That is a necessary quality to become a top athlete but he has no idea how to handle himself in the press. The fact that Jose came out so strong on him earlier tells enough to be honest. Jose has earned the right to be direct and blunt in the media and Lukaku is 21. Not a huge fan of Lukaku these days.
July 7, 201412 yr The thing is if Lukaku hadn't of forced a move to Everton and stayed like Mourinho wanted he could well have forced his way into the starting eleven due to the lack of striking options we had. Now he's returning after we've just spent big money on Costa. He's now got a fight on his hands to start games were as before the fight would have been pretty easy for him to win and he would have been established in the team by the time Costa appeared on the scene. The lad talks about playing for a big club but doesn't want to fight for it. No team is going to give him a guaranteed start in a CL club and the sooner he realises this the soon he can knuckle down and put in the hard work necessary.
July 7, 201412 yr I think he will leave this summer. I think someone like Spurs will be the best he can get. No one higher than that will take him.
July 7, 201412 yr I agree it would be better if he was sold abroad but i dont think anyone will pay what we are asking.
