Athletic Club in Spain, I'm a big admirer of their unique cantera policy and the fact that they will never scrap it for the sake of success, they'd quite literally prefer to get relegated than see their cultural identity sold down the river. They've also played some great football over recent years under Bielsa, who has to be one of the most eccentric managers around.

 

They have historically had an 'English' mentality stretching back to the days of 'el mister', Fred Pentland, and with Bilbao being a port city, the clubs roots were sewn by the influence of British sailors.

 

 

They're known as the Lions, as well, so a nice wee Chelsea similarity there!

 

North of the border I'm an admirer of Celtic for family reasons, the first British club (and indeed, the first Northern European club) to lift the European Cup, and a storied domestic history to boot.

 

Over recent years I've become rather enamoured with Borussia Dortmund, (and that's years, not months, you Johnny come lately Champions League bandwagoners! ) their stadium is immense and their manager is a true eccentric, they're the upstarts competing against the established order in the form of Bayern Munchen.

 

The fact that their greatest rivals, Schalke, are essentially the 'Liverpool' of Germany, a once mighty club trading on past glories and comically tripping up at every turn when they get within a whisker of silverware, also helps.

 

Aside from those three I merely have preferences, Feyenoord in Holland, River Plate in Argentina, Cagliari in Italy, Hajduk in Croatia, Odense in Denmark, etc, teams that I like but wouldn't claim to love.

 

footie wise - #1 FC Kaiserslautern - Real Betis - CF Pachuca - Club Atlético San Lorenzo de Almagro - Corinthians - yeah I am a footie junkie pretty much & yes I have a kit of each team :D

 

American football - Univ of Oregon Ducks (alma mater) & the Kansas City Chiefs

My local A-League team in Australia, the Brisbane Roar.

 

I don't really follow them that closely (especially compared with Chelsea), but I do go to games frequently as it's the highest standard of football I can see live.

 

Also generally root for Watford and MK Dons as I used to live in that area, however I rarely get to watch their games, although I was pretty disappointed at how Watford played in the Championship Playoff.

Rangers up here in Scotland.

 

Keep an eye out for Hamburg, Hertha Berlin and St Ettiene results in Germany and France respectively.

Funny that you mentioned this. I am thinking of changing my Sunday League team to Independiente. Some how I have taken over the team & we already play in red kits. I like the term, since we will be independent of the old regime. It's time for a change. BTW our old name is Kpop.....it's a over-40 league.
