Thanks Big Figure.

This is tougher than I thought. I always used to just list my top 10 or 20 favourite songs but that would include songs by artists who weren't necessarily a favourite artist, but produced a great record (like The Tams - Hey Girl don't bother me or Joni Mitchell - Big Yellow Taxi). But I'll give it a go of listing 20 artists / bands who are my favourites and probably most prevalent on my ipod along with my favourirte record from said artist. In no particular order (with the exception of No.1).

20. The Clash -  White Riot

19. Neil Young -  Old Man

18. Oasis -  Talk Tonight

17. Billy Bragg -  Milkman of Human Kindness

16. Elvis Costello -  Radio Radio

15. The Redskins -  The Power is Yours

14. The Style Council -  Shout to the Top

13. The Beatles -  Fool on the Hill

12. Blur -  Parklife

11. The Action -  In my Lonely Room

10. The Rifles -  Repeated Offender

9. Kula Shaker -  Tattva

8. The Stranglers -  Nice 'n' Sleazy

7. The Kinks -  You Really Got Me

6.The Undertones -  Jimmy Jimmy

5.Paul Weller -  Wild Wood

4. The Who -  My Generation

3. Artic Monkeys -  Scummy Man (When the sun goes down)

2. The Small Faces -  Whatcha Gonna Do About It.

1. The Jam -  Down in the Tubestation (At Midnight)

No doubt missed something out and I'll kick myself later.....................!

I found it nigh on impossible, even with "current" as a limiting factor. Even so, I can't believe I missed out The Who, The Kinks, Small Faces, The Pretty Things and God only knows how many more. A top twenty artists/bands was difficult, twenty songs would be impossible.

I'm currently listening to the UK Subs by the way, Sensitive Boy that I am.

Would you mind recommending me a Rory Gallagher album mate? I've got Top Priority but I have a hankering for something he's done which is a little more bluesy.

I think most of his albums were a mixture of bluesy and not so bluesy material; like Deuce, for instance, which includes the not so bluesy. "I'm Not Awake Yet", along with "Should Have Learned My Lesson", and so on.

A good place to start would be with a couple of classic lve albums, Live In Europe and Irish Tour.  From "Live In Europe":

(And Van Morrison. How the f**k did I forget Van Morrison?)

Plokkers, as BF says, best to start with "Irish Tour '74" and "Live In Europe" and besides, they're also my favourite Rory albums anyway. The Irish Tour DVD is awesome!

Another album that's right up there is "Blueprint" which includes the classics 'Daughter Of The Evergades' and 'Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son'.

Generally speaking, his earlier albums are the blusiest.

Also, the last time I posted a list of my favourite musical artists on here, there was a petition to have me kicked off the forum.

I'll fight tooth and nail to keep you here!!

I'm still too exhausted from the effort of compiling the last list!!  When BF makes a contribution to Musical Connections, I'll write my list for him - can't say fairer than that!

The UK Subs are such a cliched cartoon version of punk. I saw them on TOTP 1979 recently i'd forgotten how bad they were. All leather jackets and safety pins it looked like the sort of piss take on punk you'd see in a Benny Hill or Two Ronnies sketch. Punk wasn't for men in there mid thirties with bouffant barnets.

Cheers for the advice guys, I think I'll look into re-acquiring Irish Tour in the near future.

Here's my list, it was hard so I had to include some 'honourable mentions' (Sly & the Family Stone, Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble, Israel Vibration, Scientist, Creedence Clearwater Revival and A Tribe Called Quest). Definitely worth reiterating that this is a list of favourites and not a list of who I deem as the 'best', which I imagine would look quite different.

1. Rush

2. Thin Lizzy

3. The Smiths

4. Gil Scott-Heron

Good live band, made a few decent tunes but if TOTP is your window to the world then what the fock do you know?

There's always one, isn't there.

Everyone else who's so far contributed to this thread has done so in a spirit of tolerance towards other people's musical taste. But not you. You zoom in on a band that YOU don't like, that YOU think is crap, indicating your belief that your opinion is that much more important than anyone else's.

I'm not a massive fan of the UK Subs; I used to have diminished responsibility on red vynil way back when, and nowadays I've got a compilation that I dig out now and again. As for their music, the obvious one is Party In Paris. Other highlights include Down On The Farm, Fear of GIrls, and this one, which I referred to previously:
