chelsea/QPR/Fulham areas

Featured Replies

Was just wandering how support for the 3 clubs is split across west london.

Although born in battersea, I grew up in Barnet around Arsenal and Spurs fans so never been too sure. I assume that Chelsea got most of its fans from South-West London (Mitcham, Battersea etc.) and that QPR were mainly supported in areas like Hounslow and Ealing while Fulham were scattered around in small numbers. I could be completly wrong so appreciate anyone who could correct me.

I'm talking more about where fans traditionally came from as London has changed loads since I grew up in the 70s and now everyone in west London probably supports us due to recent success (apart from the United gloryhunters).

Thanks in advance!

cheers for the reply! surprised west ham's support extended that far???? thought spurs would have made more of an impact in northeast london (like woodford).
guess spurs would have been the second most supported clubs in lots of those north and east london areas.

chelsea definitly couldn't have had been the majority in all those areas. lived near harrow and none of the people i knew supported them. great map though.

also, that looks at the 4 bigger clubs. but fulham and qpr surely must have been the majority supported in some areas. they are tiny compared to us but still....

Not in London of course but worth remembering that historically a lot of our fans have come from Surrey as well - places like Guildford, Woking, Redhill etc.

I think this is the reason we always had a good away following, we could get a lot of fans from the Home Counties. Surrey is definitly Chelsea country but some areas outside London we had good support from despite no obvious link. Always remember meeting fans from Tunbridge Wells, can't see why they would choose Chelsea over any other London club. No geographical link.

It's also worth bearing in mind that a significant number of people now living in Chelsea/QP/Fulham have moved there more recently due to its appeal as a fashionable/rich/upmarket area in a booming London, as well as a sound financial investment. As such, they might not have a particular affiliation to any football team in the UK. Londoners are definitely moving outwards, as is our support.

Exactly. That's why I was wondering more about the support in the 70s and before. Very few of the original Londoners live in these areas. Laughable how some of these areas are now upmarket when they used to be the pits.

Too right. When I was born (1989) we lived in SW6, about 500 yards from the Bridge. Moved out and settled in Kingston ultimately. Fulham was such a dump back then, how times have changed.

I'm from originally from Woking, I'm proud to say that my love of Chelsea stemmed from living in that town, going to see the mighty Woking FC play with my fellow Chelsea-supporting mates (and their parents) when I was 9 years old. Lots of Chels in Surrey (and United too....)

Hardly any Chelsea in Kent near me. Either the few United/Liverpool fans you get anywhere or the local Gillingham but fairly surprisingly, Arsenal has a huge following here.

I started going to the bridge regularly in the early 70's (first game was 1968) There were always 50 -60 of us from slough & windsor.

I always wondered about these areas just outside West London. People from Slough came from all over London so I assume the area would have been a mixture of all sorts of clubs?

I grew up near Heathrow. Apart from tossers supporting northern clubs it's predominantly a Chelsea part of London. The area around Hayes, Hounslow, Feltham etc big area of Chelsea. Negligible QPR support (who does support them?). A bit of Fulham, spurs etc. Brentford has a bit being the most local.

Question from a foreigner: who do people up in Highgate and Hampstead Heath support. I know it is northern London and probably Spuds and Gooners are the majority but figured I ask. I had a client set up an account at the firm I worked for here in Denver, CO who owned a gold exploration company overseas who resided there. He was actually a United supporter though. Nice guy who offered me WC Germany tickets but I didn't have the funds to travel and stay in Germany then.

Utd fan...sounds about right.

Utd fans are like rats....your never to far away from one

I lived in West Hampstead/Kilburn. Hampstead just up the road.

There were many Chelsea supporters up in Hampstead.

Had a lot of mates from other teams (Arsenal/Man. Utd.) who came away with us in the eighties, 'cos it was more fun!

Here is a more detailed map. I used to take the train up from Pompey and at every stop up through Hampshire and Surrey there would be increasing amounts of Chelsea getting on. Even in the eighties we dominated those areas.

That map doesn't have Essex covered but if it did it would be all Sp*rs and West 'am.
