just for you for one night only(the wife has a 'headache')and I'm bored.I had occasion to meet Norman Whiteside at a function in a hotel in belfast many years ago.we were both three sheets...(we both played in the same amateur league).I asked him,who was the best manager he ever played under?.expecting him to regale me with stories about Ferguson and Atkinson.he declared without hesitation Howard Kendall.

he was with Everton at the time, but sidelined with a knee injury that ended his career.'why Kendall I asked',because he is the only man I ever met that can drink a bottle of whisky' and talk to you as if he had a glass of water he replied

now what has this got to do with mourhino?.Norman knew his position in any team.he didn't need the inculcation of a any manager he knew his trade .did you know that Norman was the youngest player that played in a world cup?

Interesting that Whiteside should choose a manager who he never played a senior game for as the best manager he'd ever played for.

Whoops....

I would love you to get started on JFK,or any other 20th century leader.probably not appropriate here- but you probably know that.

kev - why don't you start a thread on JFK in the Lounge - I'd be interested in contributing to that.

hey kok, care to comment on this?

you may like to look at my last paragraph on the subject.did you get a hard on dickwit?,when you thought someone stood on my Achilles heal?.what a sad little boy you are.anyway I will never put someone on ignore.even a broken clock is right twice a day.

The point I was trying to make is,players like Norman are a dying breed.he was an intelligent player(and in that I mean a footballer that needs very little schooling )mourhino thinks he can make a good player a better player, not so IMO.he stifles creativity.he surrounds himself with yes men players, who if they succeed or not, doesn't really matter,he is made for life many times over financially.do you not think that is a reason why he was a grumpy bar steward at the the start of the season, when he was looked over for the manu job?

Don't sleep walk into reality fellow fans.by all means support the team but have a healthy cynicism when it comes to mourhino.

I think it will just be us two youlots.or are you taking the piss? .I'm not familiar with the lounge.I am however, familiar with with 20th century leaders.

Not at all kev - endlessly fascinating subject which would get a bit of interest I'd imagine - Ploks has indicated his interest already & I'm sure that some of our history boffins such as Spuddy & others would contribute.

he surrounds himself with yes men players,

Like Alex Ferguson? There are exceptions obviously (Cantona, Ronaldo, Ferdinand) but he consistently employed players you could generally categorise as 'obedient idiots'.

So did you or did you not meet Norman and did he or did he not tell you the best manager he played for was one he never played for, kok?

Frank Lampard was voted the 2nd best player in the world in 2005.

He also turned Joe Cole into a top class player lets not forget.

And many others, JT just got better and better under him. Then better again this time round. Then theres the likes of Carvalho, Ivanovic, Duff, Drogba etc... Could be a big list.

And also turfed out anyone he fell out with... Stam, van Nistelrooy, Yorke, Keane, Beckham.

It would be indeed, Hazard is the latest big profile player to benefit from Jose's management.

By making him defend for his life and therefore his place in the team?.have you forgot the incident on the training field when he compared Joe to his pedigree dog.one was 'pedigree' and it wasn't Joe.

IMO he destroyed Joe's confidence.you can also throw de bruyne, schurrle, mata, and soon Luis and cuadrado and possibly Willian into the equation.

he inherited a good squad from ranieri(who was clueless) and previous managers when he first joined.we will win the league this year, but I fear it will be temporary.we are regressing in where we should be on the European stage and in our style of football.PSG?,just my opinion of course.

Yeah, he destroyed Joe Cole's confidence, that is why he was consistently playing well for us and for England. And Mourinho didn't make him defend for his life, Joe Cole was a very good attacking player for us. De Bruyne, Schurrle and Mata made us a lot of money, money we needed to buy some big players and maybe more big players in the summer. Willian has never been a great attacking player, i don't know how you can say Mourinho has destroyed his confidence. Mourinho has shown a lot of faith in Willian. I would like to see Luis and Cuadrado get more playing time but i'm not seeing a problem with their confidence, especially Luis. When Luis plays, he tends to play ok.

Joe Cole had his mist fruitful seasons under Jose but if of you conveniently forget that. Defending for his life? Wonder which Joe Cole you were watching. The way Jose man managed Joe Cole massively helped Cole, the evidence is there to see and he himself has said do. Funny how you conveniently only deity negatives and forget the positives.

Done wasting my time on you.

Seriously you are a strange person, starting to wonder if you're the guy that used to call me woodhogan

'Woodhogan?' not me,'wooden' yes.a few splinters taken away from the fence and you might have a point.
