Chelsea in for Falcao?

Featured Replies

Yeah, left knee. Had a fast recovery with no complications and with no real history of injuries there's a lot to be optimistic about on that front.

The thing with this specific injury is that it's very much the second-year that you get back to your very best.

Thanks.  I have that with my knee too!  Luckily (or not!?) I'm not a professional footballer!

I'm guessing then that rather the physical side of it, which should now be fine, it's the mental thing of always thinking the knee is gunna go again so you can never mentally play your best as there's always that niggle in the back of your mind.

Exactly. Never had that specific injury but it's always on your mind for a while after. There's also the possibility of proprioception issues with the joint, but the importance of rehab can't be overstated

And don't give up on being a professional footballer :laugh2:  If Joey Barton can do it, anyone can.

It should be noted Falcao played with Monaco the season before he joined United and still struggled badly at the end of the season when played.

It's clear the injury has taken something from his game...unless you didn't watch him at United and are basing all of this on other players....

Ha yes well I suppose so, re: Barton!! I haven't had mine dealt with surgically yet, that's coming soon! It's totally buggered mate, no chance of pro football for me!

The season before he joined United, he was injured in January and didn't play again until July.

Before that he scored 11 goals in 19 games. In his matches after he scored 2 in 3.

Give Eva a call. :good2:

Good luck with it though. Make sure you do every exercise they give you after.

The one bit of optimism you could have when comparing this to the Torres and Sheva situation is that Falcao was not as reliant on pace as those two I guess.

Other than that we all hope Blue Daze really knows his stuff when it comes to these knee injuries.

(If this messes up, after Jose, we're all gunning for you, Blue Daze!)

Yeah, it's been going on for 8 years...only now the doctors have dealt with it seriously!

Urm, well to be honest Blue Daze, I'd rather get Jose in the treatment room ;) I'm female, with a 10 year long crush lol!

I should say go for Jose then, but.....

No, you go for Jose. :laugh2:

Look at it this way - if we went and bought someone who's had a better season than Costa, he may get the hump and want to go / not be as effective next year.

Falcao has AMAZING ability, forget his injury and his minor appearances last season. He is an amazing player on the climb back up after his injury. None of us know what will happen. A one year loan deal is more than worth a risk if you ask me. Jose is quite clearly a better manager than LVG, and I do think this deal could be just one of Jose's way of showing it, on top of everything else.

If Falcao gets 20 or 30 minutes here in games and starts scoring goals it will form healthy competition with our spearheads, we cant have enough goal scorers really.

Falcao coming now wont be seen as a big threat to Costa, as Costa knows Falcao hasn't been himself recently. But it will help to drive Costa on a bit more (as he knows what Falcao COULD end up doing), it will sharpen his mind for next season.

Win win.

It seems to me that we are looking for an experienced short term solution with the view of putting Solanke in the team in 2-3 seasons time.  Buying younger players on longer contracts could be viewed as stopping the development path of Solanke.

Is Falcao the right choice? I'm not sure.  When the rumour first appeared I was dead against it, not sure if because its becoming more real I'm convincing myself it could turn out to be a good deal, but I feeling more accepting of it.

I'm convinced that was the thinking behind the Filipe Luis move too, because we had Ake and Dasilva coming through. Solanke is a massive prospect for us and I think he'll follow the Loftus-Cheek path of staying at the club rather than going on loan.

Falcao was relatively fit for the whole of the season so I wouldn't put his fitness in question. We've seen many world class strikers bounce back from an ACL injury such as Del Piero, Nistelrooy, Shearer etc. It's just the matter of how his recovery went, Torres after his knee surgery seemed to lose a yard of pace, and seemed to lose a bit of his agility and dynamism as a striker as ACL affects your function of your knee and naturally those regressions start to happen.

I don't think we've had a true indication of where he is at from his experience at United but being aged 29 now doesn't help as the former world class players suffered their injuries at the 24/25 mark and I feel there's more pressure for Falcao to succeed than any of those above as well.

This can be a great signing as much as this can confirm he's a flop, I actually think it's worth taking the risk but it's likely he'll just be a backup for Costa so this might just be another repeat season for him but in London.

Torres had hamstring issues as well which are a real killer for pace. Not sure what you're basing the other comments about how the 'ACL affects your function of your knee'.

Apologies, I meant knee surgery.

Modern advances mean it's not the death knell it once was. He has seemingly had a perfect recovery from the surgery and was back playing very quickly.

You guys then gave him a year to shake off the cobwebs (cheers :JC_doubleup: ) and hopefully he'll benefit.

You will know better than me though - the football you guys played. It seemed ponderous, a little slow at times and not a fantastic amount of pacy breaks especially counters. Is that what you got or am I wrong?

I don't understand the arguements here.  If we were westham and desperate to take a punt on someone that might be cheap but could just turn out to be a bargain, then fine.  We're not.  I wanted us to sign Falcao when he was at Athletico, now though why would we even consider it.  He's past it, injured and a number of years from being proven.

Yep he might get back to his old form.  More likely though that he wont so why risk a place in our squad?

If he's injured then we probably shouldn't be in for him.

If not though, he's a good replacement for Drogba isn't he? You say he might get back to his old form - that means being one of the best finishers in world football so there's the reward.

So that means that Rémy is gone ? Because I really don't see mourinho putting falcao as his 3rd striker

I'd think so despite Remy being a better option.

Crazy eh?
