ForeverCarefree
I thought Clarkson in some way owned Top Gear or am I just making that up? Hard to see how the programme can continue without him in truth and I would be surprised if Hammond and May would do it without him either. Essentially the show is now dead and the BBC have lost their most successful regular programme.
Gem
Watched one episode of Top Gear, don't get the fuss with him or the show.
bluedave
PC gone mad is what it is. You can't even beat up your workmates anymore. What is this country coming to?! A report of the investigation's conclusions is here. Sounds like good riddance to me. Edited March 25, 2015 by bluedave

Essentially the show is now dead and the BBC have lost their most successful regular programme. I'm pretty sure he sold his stake in it. Amazing the things that the BBC can cover up, but when it comes to a scrap between a couple of workmates that both reportedly moved on from it's deemed too much. Oh well, hopefully he goes to Netflix and the licence fee gets scrapped.
PloKoon13
Clarkson sounds like a twat of the highest order, I'm sure we'll be hearing his side of the story at great length fairly soon unless he got a hefty silence payment as part of his severance package. The Mirror makes a few further allegations here, but they could well be bollocks.

I'm not defending his actions just putting it into context. Rich and famous people act like self entitled dicks, always have done, always will do. Sounds like the producer/glorified runner couldn't do his job properly but Clarkson's reaction was OTT. Ultimately the BBC has lost one of it's few decent shows which brings in a huge amount of money and the three of them plus some of those who worked on the show will find a new home elsewhere. The only people who will suffer will be the BBC.
andy
Used to love the program, but after a couple of series, it really became tedious sh*te. Can't stand Clarkson, anyone who thinks the demise of the Tiger population is nothing to worry about as it don't effect them is an ars* in my book.... however he does sell Tele and DVD's so I don't think it is a commercial astute bit of business by the Beeb. I thought Chis Evans was to replace him someone said to me this morning. Can't stand him either, but you cant escape the fact that he is a brilliant broadcaster. Blue Daze
The issue with Evans is that he's already a busy boy. Clarkson was a ferociously hard worker who took that show from being simply a bland car review show to a great 'mens' show (or boys' depending on your view) that was often enjoyable, sometimes poetic and occasionally a tremendously inspiring, tear-jerking homage to some of this country's great achievements. There's not many shows that combine silly jokes that you hear down the pub with some truly epic shots of far-flung lands. At times it was one of the most accomplished travelogues on television and that chemistry that the three had is not going to be easily replicated. Such a shame it ended like this but clearly some within the BBC were gunning for a show that represented everything they disliked.

Problem the Beeb have is that whoever they bring in is essentially going to be doing their best Jeremy Clarkson impression. Best thing they can do now is drop the show altogether. Top Gear WAS Jeremy Clarkson, without him it'll be like when Queen perform live without Freddy Mercury, a sad tribute act.
moi
No excuse for what Clarkson did, but it was nothing like as bad as what Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand did to Andrew Sachs, and their careers still seem to be going strong. I know bugger all about cars, but I do have a sneaking admiration for Jeremy Clarkson's honesty in speaking his mind, even though I often disagree with what he says. Interesting that Brand, as much as I loathe him, and Wossy were subject to spin, quite a bit of info about Sach's granddaughter was swerved worsening the outlook for the pair. moi
The girl could have been the greatest whore who ever walked the streets of London, it still doesn't excuse them ringing up her grandfather the way they did. If anyone ever rang me up and talked about one of my grandchildren like that, I would go for the jugular!

I'm not sure if I would say that what Ross and Brand did was worse than Clarkson, but like with Clarkson their actions were indefensible. At least Brand had the decency to fall on his sword. I believe Ross was suspended for quite a long time but eventually returned to working for the BBC for a while.

Off the back of that didn't Brand leave BBC Radio and Jonathan Ross didn't get his £8m a year golden handcuff contract renewed. Okay they weren't sacked but they weren't on a final warning like Clarkson was. Both of their careers are still going but it's away from the BBC, it's only through their desire to continue working and doing new projects that they've stayed in the limelight. Blue Daze
It's a rather bizarre outcome where one man can punch another yet the group who ultimately suffers is the BBC's audience/licence fee payers (although they'll move over to whatever Clarkson does next) and the corporation itself, whilst the person who did the punching may well benefit financially as a result of it. The BBC is poorer for this decision.
moi
The difference between what Clarkson did and what Ross/Brand did, is that he lost his temper and impulsively (and inexcusably) punched another man, whereas they planned publicly to humiliate an old man and took great glee in doing so. The BBC is poorer for this decision. What makes you say Clarkson might benefit financially? If the BBC have decided not to renew his contract then he shouldn't be entitled to any payout, and Sky have announced (or so I'm told) that they will not be employing Clarkson in any capacity. I could see him ending up doing some crappy talk show on ITV which eventually bombs, followed by a spell on some crappy commercial radio station before fading into total obscurity, sort of like a real life Alan Partridge. Oh well, I can dream...
