Champions League Seedings - Next Year

New seeding arrangements places a huge emphasis on winning the league going forward and it will make the group stages harder. That said, it could also make the CL easier to win if some of the bigger teams get knocked out or drawn against each other.

Thank goodness that we're not Arsenal, they will never win the league under Wenger.

This will make quite a difference. Using the old club rankings the top 8 clubs would have been Real, Barca, Bayern, Chelsea, Athletico, Schalke, Benfica and Porto (assuming they qualify for next season's competition)

Now, 2 of those big Spanish sides will go into the second pot and we'd be quite likely to draw one of them. the second pot will have both Man Utd and Arsenal and we can't draw them.

On the other hand, you'll see crap groups more often than the so called "group of death".

Surely it will be the opposite?

For instance, the days are now gone when Barca and Madrid will both be no.1 seeds, unless I have misunderstood this?

And take our league, as it stands now, we will be 1 seed. 2 Gooners 3/4 United/City. So in theory that could throw up a group of Juve, Madrid or Barca, United or City plus A N Other.

We could have barca or real in the group stages, despite winning the league. Not sure whether that's to anyone's advantage. Prefered the old system tbh, it seems that it was only a problem for city. The champions league hasn't been about the champions of each league since it changed from the European cup. It made sense that the seeding was done based on European performances.

City were just unlucky with the draw, psg, juve dortmund, and atletico have been in the same boat recently and they seem to have managed.

Getting out of the group will be tougher but in theory, the CL will be easier to win as some bigger teams will be knocked out.

Not sure how I feel about that to be honest. If you're going to win it, you want to play and beat the best.

If you dont end up playing all top sides in the knockout stages, then chances are you've come through a tough group beforehand.

Either way you've earnt it.

To be the best you gotta beat the best, whether you play them in the groups or KOs shouldn't change much in my opinion.

It's been a farce that cos arse have qualified for cl every year that they have been one of the top seeds for so long...five straight last 16 exits, haven't won their own league for over a decade...I think this is a fair move...they always get a piss easy group too and they don't deserve it
