If the boy isn't going to be given a start or even just decent minutes against a team that's not played a competitive match in two months then he never will. 
He'll get a token 5 or 10 minutes in the closing stages of random matches but right now I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't start a game between now and the end of the season. 
No doubt Bayern will be back in for him in the summer and he's probably going to still want out because we've done little to convince him he's likely to feature heavily for us. 
If Bayern are offering him the chance to replace Robben or Ribery why, as a young winger with bags of potential, wouldn't you want to take your chances? They're not going to drop £35m on him and give him 6 minute cameos they're going to throw him in at the deep end and ask him to compete for a starting spot.

Matic at Chelsea has hit a rut, he is guaranteed to make the match day squad and he puts in 5/6 out of 10 performances week in week out, his performances at United will follow a similar pattern. He will most likely have a excellent start to the season and once he has established himself, the performances will drop slightly with the odd outstanding game.

Anybody who thinks £40mil for that lumbering moron is a bad deal need their head testing.

Never looked that good to me outside his first season, but can't say I watch Chelsea as frequently as you guys...

As previously mentioned he would play a more advanced role next to Hazard and Costa, since you guys use wing backs he wouldn't need to provide width and be allowed to play narrow...

Just to add, for anyone who doesn't think james would fit into that front 3, if look on whoscored.com and look at the average player positions in this formation, hazard and pedro/Willian play more as number 10's than they do wingers.

I think the point most are making is that there is no need to change the system. He would slide in for Pedro in 3-4-3 and as someone posted on another thread, we are changing shape recently to a 3-5-2 where Pedro or Hazard drop into midfield which seems exactly what you would want James doing. 

They don't cut inside though, they receive the ball in central areas all the time, they are not wingers in this system.
