Why couldn't we have done this 12 days ago if true.

Matt Law reported we tried but Ajax was insistent upon keeping him until the summer.

Ziyech is an assist machine, very mobile and a quality passer, would be a great signing if true.

P.S. The thread should really be moved to the Rumours section until there's a confirmation from the club.

Shouldn't create a Welcome thread until its confirmed by the club. You're just tempting fate now.

Robinho all over.

IF he comes, that left foot of his will be a great asset.

Hoping it doesnt mean no sancho though, but nonetheless it is definitely an exciting signing.

Jumping the gun much? I''d suggest changing the title and moving the thread to the rumours section.

This is from the Telegraph:

Chelsea will watch Hakim Ziyech for the remainder of the season after failing with a bid to land the Ajax winger in January, as head coach Frank Lampard plans a summer shake-up of his squad.

Ziyech was the subject of an approach from Chelsea in the last transfer window, but Ajax were adamant he had to see out the season in Holland after signing a new contract in August.

Ajax are, however, braced for new bids in the summer when they accept it will be far harder to keep the 26-year-old.

And the BBC state in their rumours section that:

Chelsea will face competition from Arsenal and Man U.

You can't be too safe. Imagine if Ajax saw this thread and thought 'right, now we're definitely not selling him to these dullards'.

Yeah, I’m sure they will do that! I understand the tempting fate bit though.

About time we signed a top quality player! Ziyech is so good, he’s miles ahead of anyone we’ve got. Excited!

That report is from yesterday.

He is quality. Brilliant eye for goal. Left footed. Great set piece taker. He can play multiple positions. I really like this signing. For £40m it's a f**king bargain for his quality. We got Bakayoko for £40m and drinkwater for £5m less ffs. Finally we are going after top quality players again.

Just to say, he can also play no.10, so this doesn't necessarily mean he will end up playing solely on the RW or LW.

If true, then it seems this is going to be our right wing signing instead of Sancho ... presumably on cost grounds ... unless we are also after Sancho for left wing ?

We can dream I suppose ... Ziyech, Sancho, Pulisic & CHO would be an awesome winger quartet on paper .. 🙂

£40m is a terrific deal considering the inflated prices in the market these days. I would have expected it to be double.

It’s definitely an exciting signing if it happens. I do worry a bit that he may be a little physically challenged for the PL. But I’ve always said, that’s not something we should always be concerned about - buy good players, whether they are tall, short, heavy, light, etc, as long as they aren’t slower than slow it should be fine. And Ziyech certainly isn’t slow. Not a burner but not slow. And infinitely skilled.
