This was posted in the other teams thread but thought it deserved a proper discussion. Looks like BT are really catching up and possibly overtaking Sky.

Assuming they win La Liga, they will have:

- 1 PL per weekend

-.CL

- EL

- German league

- Italian league

- La Liga

I read one article where they said Sky tactic with Sentana Sports was to basically wait it out and let them go bust ( which they did). However given BT's resources I can't see that happening.

Are Sky being smart or are their days numbered?

Sky are banking on the premier league which will keep them strong for a while yet but their prices are bound to come down with the more they lose.

Maybe they've been caught sleeping. It does seem odd that Sky, who used to bully everyone else are now the ones being pushed around.

I know it must be difficult, but I felt BT's cameras didn't deal with the contrast of sunlit parts of the pitch and shadowed on Sunday.

Their microphones must have been concentrated on the Arsenal end too, ass they were definitely prominent.

Yeah the shadow was terrible.

I don't think Sky are simply letting BT beat them. I think they're waiting for BT run up massive debts/bills and push their prices up - which they will eventually have to do because of the massive amount of fees they have paid out

Sky are indisputably the best at sports coverage in the UK their coverage is streets ahead of everyone elses.

Plus they've got 20 years broadcasting experience over their rivals.

I can only see Sky winning anything they want to.

BT are still fairly new to football.

It will take a bit of time before they are up there with the levels SKY churn out.

They have the CL though and that is massive add to that Spanish football mixed in with Italian, German and the French leagues then it becomes a real power player.

English football is the big fish though and SKY will have that for as long as they want, they have basically accepted losing LA Liga so they can focus on keeping the majority of the EPL rights.

At last serious competition for SKY, about bloody time.

Because of this, I got a good deal off SKY this year, £51.50 pm for full SKY TV package (minus 3D) with one multiroom.

BT provide my broadband and phone which works out to about £75 pm with all my calls added, plus BT sports for £5 pm for HD, total £80 pm.

That's a total of £131.50 pm for both services.

If SKY are waiting for BT to go bust they will have a long wait.

BT had the start on SKY with super fast broadband, many BT customers will not leave BT for SKY broadband, even if it's free. People don't like swapping broadband providers.

I just pay £50 odd a month for XL Virgin with the biggest Broadband package.

Use the android box for SKY Sports and such.

I actually have Sky Go on the Ipad but hardly use it.

I think a thing to remember here aswell is nothing in this country gets watched as much as the PL. only European games that get high viewers as the ones with PL teams in too.

BT will have to push prices up soon but you have to admire them. They're throwing everything at challenging Sky and in some ways it's really exciting.

My only issue is that everyone labels Sky as crooks but they're all in the end the same. Sometimes it's better the devil you know.

Can anybody help me out here?

I have Sky (the full package with the sports).

My first question is, what football will I still be able to watch and what football will be on BT?

Secondly, how do I get BT Sport if I'm a Sky subscriber and how much extra will it cost?

Thirdly, what is the most cost-efficient way of having Sky Sports and BT Sport, i.e. can I get both cheaper if I move from Sky to another provider such as Virgin or BT or whatever?

The cheapest way is the illegal way, chipped box.

But if you want to be all above board, then as an exsisting SKY customer you can phone them up and cancel your subscription. They will then put you through to a dept that will make you an offer, don't accept that offer and tell them you just cannot afford it, then they will make another offer, that's how I got mine down.

Who do you currently have your phone and internet with Davy ?

Also, if you don't have any BT products you can still add the BT Sport Pack on Sky TV from £19.99 per month

Friends of mine have Sky. They've just added BT sport to their Sky contract and are paying £19.99 a month for it.

Yes.  I have BT broadband at home and have been charged nothing up until now for BT sport. Will be charged a £5 per month from now on to watch the games.

You have to pay for BT sports HD which is £5 pm, so now you'll get a better picture, if your using a full HD tv.

Putting aside the coverage of football by Sky and BT - and have to agree that Sky's coverage is better - I think that broadcasting of football is only part of the battle between Sky and BT. They are both trying to out do each other in the broadband and tv markets. Could be a case of who blinks first. And BT have recently moved back into the mobile phone market - strange that they moved out of it all those years ago.

As others have said, the costs for watching BT sport will go up. Will be interesting to see what happens when the contract for broadcasting the Premier League is re-negotiated in a few years time.

My sister and brother-in-law have Virgin Media TV at home and have Sky Sports and BT sport with the package. Will ask if they are going to be charged more.

Slightly aside. I saw the other day that Channel 5 will be broadcasting highlights of the Football League games. Will be interesting to see how they do.

You have to pay for BT sports HD which is £5 pm, so now you'll get a better picture, if your using a full HD tv.

Thanks.

My setup:

Sky Box F5 linked to satellite dish for Sky and BT sport etc - £200 or so for all equipment. £50 a year thereafter.

Android box for streaming matches that are not aired on cable tv. - £40 one off for the box.

Problem with having two broadcasters is that its worse for the fans. We now have to buy TWO packages instead of one. It should all be on one boradcaster.

That’s why I just picked the best broadband package I could find and add the TV that comes with it (Virgin came with free BT sports).

If you have a good enough connection you can pretty much stream any match you like if you know what you are doing.

No chance I’d pay over £60 odd a month, just not worth it IMO.
