Chelsea being left behind?

We'll never know unless he starts giving them a chance.

So we should revamp our entire youth system and youth scouting network?

Have to disagree with you there Jack.

You forget we only see match days. He works with these players on a daily basis. They will show in training if they are ready to be given a chance. Handling a match-day is completely different, but they need to show that they are ready.

It's hard for a club such as ours. You have to be exceptional at a young age to keep the shirt. Smaller clubs play with less risk, as they can afford to lose games. We cannot, so its a case of you need to be better than anyone else in your position. Hard for a young player, when competing against seasoned World Class pros.

Totally agree with the second part. Top clubs like us, who every season are expected to compete on all fronts - including the CL, it's hard to gamble with untried youngsters. It continually frustrates me (and no doubt them even more!) that they don't get a chance, and it would be nice to see more on the bench in cup games and even PL games when we are winning comfortably, but I'll be surprised if that happens.

But I do disagree about what the coach sees in training. I think it is clear with Mourinho that he has his favourites - his "chosen ones". He has faith in certain players and will tend to stick by these so even if a youngster does come through and do wonders in training, Jose will still be inclined not to risk it for match days. That's certainly how it seems anyway.

Sure he can appear set in his ways. But you'd imagine, and hope, that if a young player was consistently outperforming others in training he'd be given a chance. RLC was pushed through pretty quickly ( no loan etc), and so therefore must have shown he is capable and ready.

I have to be honest what I've seen from the likes of Baker, Brown, Solanke and Boga...dont tell me they are ready for Chelsea 1st Team. More potential. I think the CC is imperative for some of these young players too. Have been really impressed with Musonda. Still needs to develop physically though.

Have to admit to getting carried away with some of our youngsters in recent seasons and expected at least one to have featured in the first team by now. I really don't see any harm in having one or two on the bench at times - players like Ake and Boga who I am certain could come on and do a job. It would at least be worth looking at them if say we were 3-0 up at home to Norwich with 25 minutes to go. I know it's a big step up from youth / reserve football but then look at McEachran when he was given a chance under Carlo. Far from looking out of place he was the best player on the pitch in a couple of games.

I hope you are right and if a youngster was doing the business in training regularly they would get a chance - and I mean a PROPER chance, not come on in the 88th minute, but I still have my doubts.

This.  Give them a little time at least.  To bring on Mikel or Ramires in this situation does less for our squad, in my view, than giving a youngster a chance to get first team minutes.

Hardly left behind,do we need a big signing every season with a team that we have? Bargain signings proved to be great for us for example Azpilicueta joined for 7 mill, and our record signings like Torres proved to be a flop.

True but it can also work the other way Hazard and Marin for example.

To be honest, the majority of us aren't looking for a big signing, just some good squad players that can come in and give the first 11 a bit of competition.

Agreed i am always up for that mate, but i am not up for the option to sign the likes of Cuadrado for big money to be pretty much a squad player.

witsel would have been a useful signing, even aranguiz. it would be nice for us to add another strong CM.

I actually think we are ok for CM with Loftus Cheek now in there, Matic and Fabregas will play the majority of games anyway. Ramires and Mikel are still ok for squad players for this season anyway. I actually think we are weakest in the attacking mids, we have Hazard then there us a huge gap in quality. Oscar is inconsistent Willian can't score Cuadrado can't do anything don't think Mourinho particularly rates Moses. I really think we need someone to dribble past players more to help and take the burden off Hazard.
