March 24, 201610 yr I really thought the club might have learnt something from this season but already I see we have another pre-season tour of the USA set up for July / August where we will be playing Liverpool, Real Madrid and AC Milan. I know all big clubs do this nowadays as it's obviously a big earner and feeds our obsession to build the "Global Brand" but at what cost to our season? Has the new Manager even been consulted (more like he's told)? There is no doubt that football is run as a business these days and the manager has to accept whatever is thrown at him but give me the old days of some nice warm up matches against English and Scottish sides any day.

I agree. Look at us last season, we played all of our pre season games in Europe, a few of them were in England and we managed to fit in 10 pre season games. Last season was the perfect pre season, i don't understand why we didn't do the same this season.

Agree fully with the sentiment of more pre season friendly matches played in the UK. I can though see a case this season to take part in the international tournament given that we have no European football on the horizon. This maybe a blip for one season but could in theory be more. It's imperative that we keep our profile on the international stage as we rebuild. The time to worry is when we are no longer invited to take part in these competitions.
March 24, 201610 yr Preseason tours abroad are nothing new and didnt we have them on each of our title winning seasons? just as most of our title winning rivals do too, its the post season tour that does the damage something which we shouldnt repeat again.
March 24, 201610 yr Good Points. This summer, with the Euro's running from 10/06 to 10/07 a fair number of our players will obviously be involved so I would imagine their won't be an end of season tour and if there is, it will be mainly fringe and youth players. Those that were involved in latter stages of Euro's will no doubt be given extended time off to have the belated holiday with family etc but I do feel these tournaments in places like the USA and Asia are a pain in the arse the players could do without - however much revenue they may bring in. Still, it will hopefully give Conte a good chance to look at the likes of Ake, Baker, RLC and many more.
March 24, 201610 yr I think the thing that somebody could backup/refute that didnt help us on our preseason tour this season was that we were based bloody miles away from where we were playing the games, so were doing additional flights everywhere to play the games before flying back to the camp, wasnt it basically games on west coast of america and training camp was east coast? ill google it as im sure it was the case that we were clocking up loads and loads of extra unnecessary airmiles. edit: Ok camp/base was in montreal canada, whilst games were east coast of america with flights to and from inbetween, which with a short preseason wasnt the greatest idea in hindsight Edited March 24, 201610 yr by strong centreback
March 25, 201610 yr Who's looking forward to wearing this little beauty? I can't wait... image.jpg Best away/third kit in ages that one.
March 26, 201610 yr Who's looking forward to wearing this little beauty? I can't wait... image.jpg Really like that. Will we still have 3 kits next season with no European football? I guess so...
March 26, 201610 yr Do Yokohama have a back out option in their deal with us if we do not qualify for Europe? Quick redesign of shirts if so.
March 26, 201610 yr Really hope we get a manager in that has us dominating games again. The minute we come up against a decent team, we seem put 10 men behind the ball, and try and win the ball high up and counter. That sort of tactic worked when we had one of the best defences in Europe, and a drogba who was permanent out ball to relieve the pressure. Centre defence and centre midfield need massive work, and as much as it pains me to say this, I hope we can develop as good a passing game as psg showed over the 2 legs. No verratti tonight but they still dominated possession. I'm not saying possession wins football matches, but it would nice to see a club of our stature play on the front foot in the big games, especially at the bridge. When is the last time a top team has changed their tactics to try and nullify us? It always seems to be the other way round. As always i pretty much agree with all that i read from Big Blue. I also just hope that our next manager integrates a philosophy and style of high tempo, high pressing football, with slick, fast passing movements when we are in possession. I like possession football but it has to have a purpose. It's all well and good getting one nil up in games and then getting the opposition into a headlock with no way to break us down but when your defensive midfield and defence becomes rocky then these types of tactics get found out.
