RIP Ian Britton 1954-2016

R.I.P mate, you were a genuine Chelsea great when the chips were down and long before the big money and glory days came to the Bridge.

You will be remembered by everyone who ever saw you play.

Sleep well wee man... :sCOtlaND: . ::clap2::  ::clap2::  ::clap2::

Anyone else pissed off our players havent worn a black armband for Ian Britton?

Seems we can acknowledge every death & tragedy across Europe except our own(sigh)

Good point. Maybe we're waiting for a home game to acknowledge him, the moment though has gone now and the time to show our respect for him was yesterday. Next weekend will be the Hillsborough anniversary again you can bet that will be rammed down our throats.

Didn't notice that but it's shocking. The club did a decent write-up but it's shoddy that they didn't do more for a guy who played almost 300 times for the club.

Its his funeral tomorrow in Burnley, i know a few London based Chelsea fans who are making the effort to travel up there for it, the funeral is also going past & stopping outside Turf Moor, our players havent even worn a black armband.

More proof the club is out of touch with us fans on certain things, i'm sure i'm right but i dont think there has been a mins silence either has there?

Ian got a great send off with some of his old Chelsea team mates there, a few Chelsea fans made the long journey north to pay their respects, for those on twitter put in Ian Britton & you get links to some photo's.

Shame Chelsea FC couldnt have shown a bit more respect, its a bit late to wear black armbands v Man City.

R.I.P Ian Britton.

Shocked that the team didn't wear black arm bands for a player that was integral in the history of our club.  Saw some bloke on twitter @-ing all the folks he could about how ashamed he was of "his club." The guy claimed to have started the Ladies Club at Chelsea too, and was going on about how disgusting it was.

RIP Ian, far too young

Maybe it was just an oversight on someone's part, even so we're supposed to be a top professional club, one of Europe's elite so it shouldn't happen, and to think us CPO holders are expected to possibly hand over our shares willy nilly, still thats another subject & probably not for this thread.

Chris Mears's twitter has some nice photos up of some of the old boys.

Agree with the sentiments about the club's behaviour and hope they do something on Saturday for a player who was part of this club's history.

Ive just put a picture up on the vintage section.

Neil Barnett (spy) the pre-match and half time announcer used to have influence and arrange for old players to be remembered......I hope the team wear black armbands for the upcoming Home match against Citeh.

My generation fondly remember Ian Brritton as being a hard working midfielder in Eddie Mac's team and subsequent teams.

Spy was up at Burnley for the funeral.

I hope the black armbands are worn on Saturday as I think it's the first home game since his passing? Could be wrong. It's odd how there is nothing about him in the official magazine though.

Tbf how far in advance is that prepared?  They probably prepare most of it and just leave the results bit til as late as possible.  So it's probably too recent to appear in the current one.

RichardP: Thanks for the two pieces of footage above.

No problem, lets everyone see one of our old boys. Current players take for granted every kick is recorded. Always felt great once you got to the Bridge or away and find you were on the tv over the weekend on match of the day or the big match.

Richard: Being a Chelsea supporter up here in Scotland. I loved it when the team came up for a friendly.

It was great seeing them live and the highlights or any goal footage on tv.

Fortunately my old man had The Times delivered on a Sunday so that and Shoot magazine was my Chelsea news during the mid 70s - the early 80s.
