Died today after a long illness aged only 61.  I only found out he was ill yesterday.  Very sad news - a great player for us in the 70s and a really nice bloke.

One of my favourite players from "my" era - from the days that our heroes drank in the bar next to us.  He and a few of the other first teamers used to drink sometimes in our local wine bar without fuss or much attention.

RIP Ian.

Gutted to read this. He was a very good, consistent player who I always rated.

Very sad news indeed. Hope the players have black arm bands in his memory at Villa.

Sad news indeed, also had no idea he was ill.  Thoughts as always at times like these are with his friends and family.

RIP Ian

Known for 2 or 3 years about his illness via the official Blackburn Rovers photographer who supports Burnley and one of my best customers. I remember seeing Ian play for the youth teams at Mitcham, and the biggest compliment I can pay is to say that he is one of the few players from my first 30 years of following the club who would have had a decent chance of getting in to the team of the last decade. Very underrated due to being a very good player in a poor team, but one of our greats nonetheless.

RIP.

Sad news, RIP fella. He was playing for us when i first started to support the Blues, I can't remember too much about him as i was too young.

RIP Ian - a sad loss too young. My thoughts with his family.

He played for Chelsea for 10 years 1972 to 1982 ... and he was on my bed room wall from 1977 to 1982.

I have vague memories of him doing an advert for Mars not 100% sure.

I seem to remember seeing this advert on a holiday to Ireland in summer of 78 i can recall the empty north stand terrace towards the west stand and I was so excited about this , God bless Ian Britton was a hero of mine

Cheers mate your right really chuffed someone remembers it.

Was reminiscing about Ian with beer queen on here earlier in the season. Sad news, have fond childhood memories of a little Dynamo midfielder who always give his all for The blues. I don't remember him playing for another club, I remember him as achelsea through. Also remember my mum fancied him cos he looked like Leo sayer (all in the hair).

Best wishes to his family and friends.
