May 29, 201610 yr Real obviously deserved it, as do any team who win the champions league. Finals are usually drab encounters, at least this one was close and not a forgone conclusion like last year's effort. As for Ronaldo bar the penalty celebration he didn't go over the top at all and even the guys in the studio said he kept thing low key after the whistle. He seems to get slated regardless of what he does or doesn't do. He had a poor game but that's down to him being injured and not fit, was a gamble that paid off in the end. Zidane now surely keeps his job which might mean James is on the market, I expect a few to be in for him.
May 29, 201610 yr Typical Ronaldo really, he always has to be one that takes the penalty to win. Fantastic footballer, but one of the worst team players i have ever seen. It's always got to be about him. I remember in the Euro's or World cup, can't remember which one now, he should have been the first to take a penalty for Portugal, but he wanted to be the one that won the game so waited, he ended up not taking a penalty because Portugal had missed too many before he got his chance. Typically I'd have agreed with this - he's always been very selfish etc. but I feel that he's actually matured in the past couple of seasons. Struck me near the start of the game when he took a shot and wasted an opportunity, he then apologised to Marcelo for not passing to him. This is something you would never have seen from him 5 years ago. Was fairly ineffectual but he did actually make some good runs and tried to influence the game. Gotta question his fitness. As for the pens - I too remember the incident but what would it have changed if he'd scored first and his team-mates had gone on to miss anyway? The reason he didn't take one is because it wouldn't have mattered. Thinking about it, who else in the world would you rather take the 5th, decisive, penalty in the CL final? I'm pretty f**king glad we had Drogba taking the 5th one rather than the first. You want the players that won't shirk away from the pressure/occasion and that's what he was. Still incredibly cringeworthy that he's getting the attention for "scoring the winning penalty" when Modric, Bale and Ramos were fantastic and Ramos scored in his 2nd CL final

It seemed like a team that was pleased to win it rather than a team that was overjoyed, if that makes sense.
May 29, 201610 yr Who thinks that Real were the best team in Europe this season? I don't. They had such an easy ride to the final - They came back from Wolfsburg, fair enough but then played PSG and City who basically didn't turn up for the 2 games. Not impressed with Zidanes tactics either, very conservative. I thought Ath Madrid deserved to win it after beating Barca and Bayern. Was Chelsea the best team in Europe in 2012?
May 29, 201610 yr A cup competition won't necessarily be won by the best team. Chelsea wasn't even the best team in England in 2012.
May 29, 201610 yr It's not a pure cup competition, it's a hybrid league/cup format, it would be better if it was a straight knock out (two leg) again.

May 29, 201610 yr Was Clattenburg on something last night ? https://twitter.com/r9rai/status/736669383494389761 Why would you ever do that ?
May 29, 201610 yr No, but the decisive second part is in cup format. Decisive as in the latter stages yes, you could start off with a knock out competition, and then revert to a league format, then the league format would be the decisive part, but it isn't a cup competition, clue is in the name.

We'll have to disagree on this one. Despite the name I feel it's more of a cup than a league competition.
