There’s a decent article on Keegan signing for Southampton back then, on these football times website.

August 10, 20205 yr 1972. For many years TV coverage of the FA Cup Final was an all day event. In my home town - and I expect it was the same through out the country - there were two florists. One had its shop window decked out in the colours of one side and other had the colours of the opposition. If I remember correctly the 'losing' florist made a donation to a charity chosen by the 'winning' shop.
August 10, 20205 yr One of my Uncles lived down in Ayrshire and so received the live coverage of the FA Cup Final. It wasn’t shown live in Scotland. Even when it didn’t clash with the Scottish Cup Final. In 1977 most of Scotland had no live coverage of the FA Cup Final. Two films were shown instead. There were no senior football games being played in Scotland that day as the season was over. My old man, another uncle two of my cousins and I would go down in a car to his house to watch it if Rangers weren’t in the Scottish Cup Final Those who were in the south of Scotland could tune in as they received Border or Ulster TV coverage. Crazy when you look at the blanket live tv coverage now. Edited August 10, 20205 yr by erskblue

Crazy when you look at the blanket live tv coverage now. Yes, very different from nowadays. I reckon we've gone from one extreme to another. If I remember correctly the only games which we were shown live in London were the FA Cup Final, European Cup Final and England v Scotland. And they were all in May! As for highlights just Match of the Day and the Big Match. Had to watch them at the time with no recorders and repeats.
August 10, 20205 yr Results from 1976 we lost 1-0 to Sheffield United on the Friday night. Can't say I remember spastics points which were presumably some sort of charity pools thing !. Edited August 10, 20205 yr by bluehaze

August 11, 20205 yr France wore the green and white tips of a local Argentinian side in this game v Hungary in the 1978 World Cup. This was due to both sides bringing very similar change strips to the match. Edited August 11, 20205 yr by erskblue
