October 29, 20196 yr Was there that day-and Nevin's run is one of my most cherished memories. Watching from the Shed in front of the Tea bar Pat picked it up no more than 6 yards from our goal line, beat a couple of defenders immediately a one two with Kerry on half way then continued drifting past a more helpless Newcastle players and ended up hanging a cross to the far post where I think it was headed out for a corner.. We've had so many wonderful days in the last 20+ years but that season is still my favourite when taken as a whole. Saw 44 games including 2 reserve matches, 5-0 to start, 5-0 to finish, a new group of heroes from nothing really, fantastic away days all season (Man City on a Friday night my favourite I think) great foootball, fantastic atmosphere all year really.

The final piece of the jigsaw of THAT team, we were unstoppable once Mickey T joined. In my time the construction of THAT team was the greatest bit of team building ever at Chelsea, especially as we had no money! "Jonny Neal's blue and white army"

"Jonny Neal's blue and white army" Read some bonkers article about him- he and Joey Jones used to drive down from Wrexham every day for training ( 4 hours each way) and kip on fans sofas or along those lines.

January 15, 20206 yr They had slept in the referee’s room and went on the pitch at night. The best story from Micky T was about when he and Joey wore stocking masks and pretended to rob the box office!!

I once met him in a pub when I was a young teenager and he bought be a pint and shared a fag. Top bloke, he had a big commanding presence and both humble and well-informed. He was with Joey Jones, another legend who gave it his all. Despite their limitations as players both of these men were proud to wear the shirt (and what a shirt the Le Coq Sportif shirt was!). If our current players play with the same intent then we will end third this season.

Just trying to imagine any modern team trying 'route one' or trying to 'mix it physically', with the two of them in our defence, Utter Carnage... Edited February 1, 20206 yr by erskblue
