Mattia Caldara

It's strange how we're being linked with Rugani but seem to want this fella if that deal can't be agreed.

Not sure why we seem so determined to sign a new centre back.

If Sarri wants Rugani, I'm all for it... but this just seems like signing a new player for the sake of it? Between Luiz, Rudiger, Christensen we've already got three very good centre backs. Throw in Cahill, Ampadu and Zouma and there's a lot of cover already.

Just seems like we'd have to move on a lot of players to accommodate a player who might not even be first choice?

I could understand Rugani, he's played under sarri, so he could help us transition to Sarri's style a bit easier.

Caldara is a bit of a strange one. From everything I have read, he seems more of a tradition centre back, of which we have plenty.

Maybe Juventus are leaking a fake bid, so they can get a high value for him if they swap him for bonucci.

Conversely you can remove Cahill and Zouma fro Sarri's plans, as they are not good on the ball. Christensen also has a bit to prove in that area, when under pressure. Ampadu he has already said will probably not play this season (if the quotes are true) and if he sees Luiz as defensive midfield cover for Kante/Jorginho, we are starting to look a bi thin at CB.

Don't think Luiz is going to be used in midfield any more, it was a failed experiment under previous managers and I think he's very much a centre back now.

Although I think Cahill might leave in search of regular football I don't think we can rule out him staying.

I think Christensen is very good on the ball, regularly has one of the highest passing success percentages in games he plays in, I actually think he'll adapt well to a possession based, passing system.

So the point I was making is that if we're not signing someone to be first choice, which is what I assumed Rugani was intended to be, why are we looking to spend big on someone who would only provide cover? We've already got plenty of depth so unless you're improving our first picks it feels a bit of a needless buy.

This bit about a fake bid to drive up his swap value looks sharp to me.

Juventus back where they started on number of CBS. Wonder if Bonucci coming back makes it easier to let go of Rugani, although their back line looking old.

Juventus will hold on to Chelsea target Daniele Rugani if they give Mattia Caldara to Milan, reports in Italy say.

The Bianconeri are thought to be close to a deal to bring Leonardo Bonucci back to Turin, which would involve sending Caldara to San Siro.

According to SportMediaset, that would put the brakes on any negotiation with Chelsea for Rugani, as Juve are not willing to lose two young centre-backs.

The Blues had wanted to reunited Rugani with his former Empoli Coach Maurizio Sarri, but if Caldara to Milan goes through it appears that won’t be possible.
