October 31, 20187 yr Sadly he passed away today Oct 31st 2018 at 78 years old. He was a bit before my time, but my old man has fond memories of him, citing that he was a great attacking right full back, until a knee injury hampered his career and finally finished his career. Also a manager for Chelsea in 1977 which I remember. RIP Edited October 31, 20187 yr by Osgood is Good
October 31, 20187 yr RIP Ken. Before my time playing but remember him as the manager who helped keep us up in 1978.
October 31, 20187 yr Sad news. His playing career ended before I started watching Chelsea but I know how highly rated he was. The club clearly thought so much of him they kept him on as a coach and chose him to replace Eddie Mac when he suddenly resigned in 77.
November 1, 20187 yr That’s a shame. Managers came in and out pretty quickly for a period then. Eddie Mac, Ken Shellito, Danny Blanchflower, Geoff Hurst...
November 1, 20187 yr I remember Ken Shellito playing in the team known as ...Docherty’s Diamonds.....Rest in peace.
November 1, 20187 yr Didn’t see him play but was told he was a good player. Heard he was good with the youth team, which led to him taking over after Ed Mac and using players he had taught and coached. He was in charge when I first started going in 1978, maybe the job came at the wrong time. With money to buy more established players it may have been different, unfortunately after keeping us in the first division 77/78 he lost his job during the following season. R I P Ken.
November 4, 20187 yr Ken Shellito was an outstanding player whose career was cruelly cut short by injury. With Eddie McCreadie they were arguably the best full-back pairing of their time ... Eddie was, of course, a complete nutter whereas Ken was a cultured full-back who could really defend but also break forward when the occasion demanded. I think he only won one England cap but the general consensus at the time, and not just among CFC supporters, was that he would have played right-back for England in the 66 WC in preference to George Cohen ... he really was that good! RIP Ken ...

November 11, 20187 yr Thanks so much for that, Backbiter. Good to know that Ken ended up a contented man after what would have been a brilliant career was so cruelly cut short.
