Morata takes it by a hair for me, probably because of recency bias. For all of Torres' failings, was his attitude ever as bad? (maybe it was, but I can't remember!)

Either way, I'm just glad that neither are at our club anymore. Let's all get behind Higuan and hope he does better!!

Torres.

By some distance. Pretty sure all stats will back this up.

He came with bigger expectations, the fee was higher (in relative terms), and we persevered for far longer. All in all much more painful.

Yes Torres had a couple of iconic moments, but romance can't be a factor if we are comparing objectively.

Given how much the club bent over backwards for Torres, signing players suited to his (prime) self, giving him unconditional starts at number one for six months amoungst other things I wonder how many PL standard strikers would hit the figures Nando did with us minimum if given the same favrouble conditions? I would imagine quite a lot if not most of them.

I use to jest about Torres being the worst striker in the league while with us, but he actually wasn't that far off.

Both have been equally bad signings, so it comes down to the highlight of their career with us. We all know what Torres best moments were, what are Morata's? I'm struggling to think of any bar the hattrick against Stoke who didn't have a defence that day.

Torres was a great player that always used to be in the starting lineup no matter where he played, nobody was scared of playing him not even in big matches even if he was in bad form, he was bought because of his shown abilities at the top level, not because of some invisible potential that he might have to offer.

Morata in comparison has always been the worse player compared to Torres, Morata was a bench player in Juventus and a super sub in Real Madrid, he was bought because of some invisible potential that was a promise that he could lead the attack, and he could never do it. Although he managed to score some important headers, he was not even used in a lot of big or important games, that's how worse his quality has been, 2 world class managers willingly chose to play Hazard as a false 9 over playing Morata at his natural position.

Torres > Morata

Coming off the bench on his debut, 3-0 down with 10 men and getting us back to 3-2 (ok we lost but we all thought we had a world beater on our hands).

The winner in the 1-0 over united.

With Torres, there were a few great moments you can look back on that will never be forgotten, but at the same time, he was so so bad for us. He would start most games, but his contribution was so low that he may as well have not been on the pitch throughout most of his time with us, he could barely get a shot all game. Sometimes I think people forget just how poor Torres was for us. He was one of the worst players I have ever seen play for the club. Injuries destroyed him.

Morata had no great moments with the club. There were some good moments, but not great. He was poor, but even he wasn't as bad as the majority of games Torres played for us. He's also going to be forgotten about fairly quickly because he wasn't here that long.

When you weigh it all up, I would say that Morata was the worst signing of the two. Torres performed worse, but at least he contributed to us winning trophies.

With Torres there was the added humiliation in the fact that it was Liverpool who received the huge fee for a player that was already in decline and they'd had the best of him and we got the absolute worst. At least Real Madrid haven't been rubbing our noses in it for the Morata disaster.

To be fair that price was dictated by the fee that Newcastle wanted for Carroll, the fact they paid 35 mill for AC who was arguably worse for them than FT was for us should put a bit of perspective on the price
