And Alonso looked average. Maatsen and James the new Cafu and Carlos confirmed.

I think you might be letting your Alonso dislike cloud your judgement again :)  Alonso looked OK, not great but not shabby either.  Still the best option on that side if we play a back three that we have seen so far.  Who knows what the the youngsters will  be like in that formation?   Can't see Alonso being with us too  much longer though, if we play a back four.

In a back three Alonso looks so good. I wouldn't be too keen with James, Tomori and Maatsen in the back line anyway, need a little experience in there.

Do not personally think Emerson is anything special, or better than Alonso. 

I do not seriously think Maatsen is better than either yet, though I would not be worried if we needed to use him with Emerson injured.

Emerson has been arguably the best LB in the league so far this season. Absolutely light years ahead of Alonso in a back four. Real shame he's picked up this injury.

Personally think he has looked average in every aspect of his game. Long term I think we will find a better option than him and Alonso. Maybe Maatsen.

He's only 5'6", which seems too short.  Not that Emerson, or Cole were that tall, but 5'6" seems particularly small

You're never too short as long as you can tackle and go forward, he's an inch taller than Kante in fact. It is ideal to have a bigger guy in defence to deal with aerial threats though.

yeah exactly, mate.   HE's a LB so I don't think height is as important as it is for say a CB.  It just seems surprisingly short.  I mean Kante at LB would look out of place

It's a bigger problem as the rest of our team is short. 

Good pace, mobility and stamina are all more important than height for a FB. 

Signed a new deal until 2024 with the option of an extra year. Hopefully he can get some minutes pre-season and give Lamps something to think about as he looked dangerous when he last played. 

If we bring in a new world class LB and Maatsen looks capable i see no reason why both Emerson and Alonso can't be moved on.
