Guro Reiten completes move to Gotham FC

Guro Reiten has today completed a move to NWSL side Gotham FC.

The 31-year-old first joined the Blues in the summer of 2019 from LSK Kvinner in her native Norway and has since firmly established herself as a true Chelsea legend.

Guro has been a Blue for six and a half hugely successful seasons, winning the Women's Super League title every year she has been with us.

Reiten hit the ground running in her first campaign, appearing in 23 of our 25 matches and scoring seven goals, earning a nomination for the WSL Player of the Year in her maiden campaign outside of Norway.

Already a favourite amongst our supporters, Reiten then played her part in our Treble-winning campaign during 2020/21, notably scoring in a thrilling 4-2 extra-time win over Manchester City in the Women's League Cup quarter-finals before finding the back of the net in our 6-0 victory over Bristol City in the final of the competition.

Thank you, Guro 💙

Guro Reiten has today completed a move to NWSL side, Gotham...

In 2021/22, former Blues boss Emma Hayes deployed Reiten in an attacking left wing-back position, and the Norway international set about learning her new position with typical enthusiasm.

From there, she scored an impressive 11 goals, including a strike in the second half against Manchester United on the final day that clinched the WSL title, and a beautiful finish from 25 yards in our Women's FA Cup semi-final win over Arsenal. Those performances earned her a place in the PFA WSL Team of the Year in her third campaign with Chelsea.

Reiten would go on to make 39 appearances in 2022/23, more than any other player in the side, scoring important goals against Lyon and Barcelona as we reached the semi-finals of the Women's Champions League. Her 13 goals in that campaign were influential as we secured another league and FA Cup double that year.

Hayes' final season in charge saw us pull off two miraculous results to win the WSL, and Reiten netted four of our eight goals against Bristol City in our final home game of the campaign, before assisting twice in the 6-0 victory away at Manchester United that saw us seal the title on goal difference.

The fan favourite surpassed the 50-goal marker early in Sonia Bompastor's domestic Treble-winning campaign 2024/25, and continued to find the back of the net as she ended the trophy-laden season with 12 strikes.

There have been a further 17 appearances and one goal this season, meaning Reiten departs Chelsea having made 207 appearances and scoring 59 goals.

Everyone at Chelsea would like to sincerely thank Guro for her huge contribution to our success over the last six-and-a-half years, and we wish her well during the next chapter of her career in the United States.

Very sad but entirely predictable BlueCo "move".

Expecting them to ditch anyone that was here before they took over, so clock well and truly ticking for Millie Bright, Niamh Charles, Erin Cuthbert, Lauren James, Sam Kerr and Aggie B-J.

I bet we miss out on CL qualification now that BlueCo are getting "more involved" in the ladies team ...

Yes, very sad and as you say, entirely predictable BlueCo. I agree with you about Millie and Niamh. Hopefully the others stay but now that BlueCo have got their grubby mitts on the women's team goodness knows what will happen.

I'm in Bristol of Sunday for the Women's League Cup Final and it would have been nice to give Guro a proper send-off at the match.

Enjoy the game on Sunday Boyne !

You could certainly see the writing on the wall for Guro. BlueCo brought their own "head coach" in, who has been using Guro less and less over the last two seasons ...

Bit classless to deny the fans the chance to see her off in style at the Cup Final too ...

@Sexyfootball thank you. The second of two games over the weekend. Here's to beating Man Utd on Sunday.

You're right, you could see the writing on the wall with Guro especially as she has started few games in the last few months. No doubt her name will be chanted a lot on Sunday.

Some of her best moments including the goal against Lyonnais when she scored with her right foot from outside the box. A great goal.

Guro Reiten's greatest Chelsea moments

Noooo!

One of my favourite players if not my favourite.

A fantastic player with a high football IQ.

Like others have said she has been completely underused since Sonia arrived, I was hoping Sonia could use her more in a number 10 role rather than a wing back.

First Paul Green and now this, the board have got their grubby little hands into the women’s team now and the signs ain’t good!

Still upset.

I believe she has been forced out because the new regime doesn’t fancy her anymore.

And I also don’t believe she would willingly leave days before a cup final without a chance to say goodbye to the fans.

Her goodbye post was heartbreaking - she clearly loves Chelsea.

Goodbye Guro, we’re gonna miss you.

Probably my favourite player over the last few seasons. Goodbye Guro, you were a fantastic servant to Chelsea, and a credit to you and your family.

I can sense the icy cold hand of Winstanley and Co on the women's team now, it's downhill from now on. A winning formula is being ripped up.

She wouldn’t be as upset if she wanted the move herself! The minute they kicked out Paul Green was opening the door for players like this to be sold on. I expect others to follow, that no longer suit ‘plans’ that we’ve seen for so long now with the men’s team.

Always said it was only a matter of time before Clownlake start f**king up the women’s team. Emma had seen it coming, and went before they completely wrecked what her and Paul (and a lot of this team) had built.
