Although, if a lot of the eligible Oirish lads chose to play for Ireland they would have a decent team.  Bellingham, Grealish, Gallagher, etc.

Jude Bellingham - Stourbirdge, England.

Jack Grealish - Birmingham, England.

Conor Gallagher - Epsom, England.

etc.

Didn’t Bellingham only get an Irish citizenship so he doesn’t count as a non EU player at Real Madrid?

Yes they all have Irish citizenship.

Gallagher got his for the same reason.  Gallagher is an EU citizen.  There are very practical advantages in having EU citizenship.

BreXit was such a load of bo**ocks. For example, that ass-clown Nigel Farage has his EU passport through his German wife.

Andy Townsend, Tony Cascarino, etc.  Jack Charlton was the manager at the time.

Players who were born in England and chose to play for Ireland.

I have 3 passports myself.  British, Irish and American.

Townsend - 1989 and almost a decade in football before his international debut. Refer back to players choosing Ireland for a taste of International football.

Cascarino - 1985 and playing for Gillingham in the third division when he made his Ireland debut. Another that thought he'd never get a look in for England so opted to play for Ireland.

Jack Charlton - Played for England.

Like i said, people only play for Ireland if they think they aren't going to get a look in for England or if they're actually Irish. If you're born in England, you're going to want to represent England.

Cascarino later admitted he had absolutely zero links to Ireland, he was asked if he had any ancestry, said yes and it was accepted 😅

There’s been a few lads opting to represent various African teams for similar reasons too. Zaha being the first to come to mind.

I guess the draw of playing in the big international tournaments is strong.  Although playing for Ireland is far from guarantee of making a Euros or World Cup these days.

okay.

But if English players want to play in Spain they will want their Irish EU passports - See Gallagher and Bellingham.

That's fine, but its not the question Sydney was asking. They're still English.

okay kid, You will travel one day and see the world and it is a bigger place than you imagine.

Kid? i'm 30 this year and visited every major populated continent. Why are you being weirdly passive aggressive when you've thrown yourself into a conversation and derailed it with whatever you're rambling on about. We weren't talking about how many passports you have or why people get other passports. Learn to read boomer.

Really? Okay. By the way you write and post I just presumed you were 15. Sorry.

As i said, weirdly passive aggressive. If you're getting this upset about words on a screen, perhaps log out and go play dominoes with the rest of the retirement home.

All I can say is that i genuinely thought you were a child. A teenager. Probably neurodivergent, clearly not employed and maybe living with your parents or maybe in a care facility with decent internetS access.

Quite impressive managing to be wrong on so many accounts.

There's no need to be upset old man, just because your kids don't want to spend time with their miserable dad you don't have to project your insecurities onto the internet.

Send them some pocket money, or a birthday card perhaps? Maybe they'll think better of you and not think you as the loser that you are.

Glad i could help x

No, No I am not wrong at all, you are a typical millennial. If not a child, you are extremely child like. that is you. Sad, but true.

Btw – I am not a ‘boomer’. I am Gen x. We grew up feral and quite frankly we dont give a fcuck about much.

sigh. Lets not continue this. But if you insist - dm if you want to say more. But the rest of the message board is not interested in your narcistic tendencies. Kid.

So that's why you're bitter. You missed out on the wealth of the boomers while having to pick up all the slack.

Don't worry, retirement soon old dog.

1. I would quite like to sign Delap, be great to have a young English striker being fed by our young English playmaker (Palmer) who is supported behind by our young English CB (Acheampong as I’ve given up on Colwill ever making it as a Top CB)

2. Everything that Celery individual (I shall not assume genders in 2025) has said in this thread is wrong.

1. The Boehly Babes? Seriously. Your name is just wrong.

2. I would sign Liam Delap. Delap and Palmer have played together before, etc. As have many of our young players

Another goal today whilst we still have no recognised striker.

Anyone know why he doesn't play for Ireland?

Seems strange that a whole generation of top talents are completely eschewing their Irish heritage in favour of England. I

Well, a lot of young players are proud of their Irish heritage. It is in their names. Conor Gallagher - Declan Rice - and Liam Delap, etc.

Conor, Declan, Liam.

For example, Declan played for Eire as a youngster and he didn't celebrate in Dublin when he scored against England. Jack Grealish even played gaelic football when he was younger.

Liam's dad played for Ireland. And his Da called him Liam. So obviously he's proud of his Irish heritage. As he should be.

But Liam also has his English heritage and England probably have a better chance of winning something on the international level. Though thats not looking great either.

That's actually the reason I asked in the first place. Maybe it's a sample size thing here in Australia, but pretty much every single person I know with Irish (or Scottish, for that matter) heritage would rather cut themselves with a rusty blade than declare for England.
