Liam Delap joins Chelsea *Official*

Would he be coming in to be competition for Jackson, or to be first choice? Cos I can't take much more of jackson, but also he is also not good enough yet to be leading the line if we are at all serious about getting back into the CL or competing for anything meaningful. If we were to bin off Jackson, sign Delap as rotation option and someone else as first choice, like an Oshimen or someone of that ilk, that would make me much calmer about the situation.

Delap would start. (Jackson suspended first match anyway).

They have similar characteristics that Maresca likes and similar output, only difference is that Delap plays for one of the worst chance creating sides in the league which gives him a huge advantage over Jackson.

But has thrived because Ipswich play on the transition. It’s a different ball game playing against defences sat deep a times with 10 men when playing for a big time.

Personally not convinced his profile is big enough for him to be a starter in the long term, unless he hits the ground running. You buy an Isak or an Osimhen and guaranteed Jackson will be sulking on the bench. With Delap; Maresca will be making excuses about learning and adapting to how we playx

BREAKING:

Liam Delap is expected to join Manchester United.

[@JPercyTelegraph]

Hey if he still makes that choice given where they are then he really does want wanted live in that part of the world.

We have to step up here now and make a statement signing now in this area. The noises are that both Delap and Cunha are lined up for Man Utd. Osimhen has price himself out.

From the media outlets the strikers that are deemed elite and available are Sesko, Gyokeres and Ekitike. I've been seeing more stuff linking Sesko with Arsenal. I think we have to get one of these marquee signings now. It will set the tone and may help us with our entire windows if other players see our intent early.

Question: What's the general consensus on Ivan Toney. Do you think his time in Saudi would have softened and slowed him up? Is it too soon for him to come back anyway cos of the tax implications?

I think Delap is Utd bound, slightly disappointing but I don’t think he would have made the instant impact we need.

We are up there for expected XG and top perhaps for big chances missed, with that in mind we should be going for one of the big names. Gyokeres is would be the one for me. Take some pressure off Jackson and let him develop with a top talent to learn from.

The same should be said for the LW, not sure who that would be, just someone that instantly improves the first 11. Have a feeling it will be Garnacho though. And CB same again. As good as Fofana is, he can’t be relied upon.

If Delap and Cunha is going to Man Utd this early into the transfer window it upgrades them massively and they become a threat for the European spots, presuming there are more signings to come.

If we want to stay ahead of the chasing pack and get abit closer to Liverpool, Gyokeres is pretty much the only answer.

Perhaps Osimhen but for some reason it hasn’t happened and doesn’t look like it will. He seems to prioritise money over trophies.

I'm with you. We need two strikers Delap and A.N. Other. Have to keep Jackson as far away from the starting lineup as we can.

I would also want us to keep hold of Guiu and give him a season on loan.

Looks like United already have the Cunhu deal wrapped up.

Delap and Cunha don't take a team from 16th to challenging for Europe, especially with all the players they're going to have to sell in summer.

While I can see the financial benefits of the deal, is Delap actually elite? That’s what we need to be focusing on. Elite strikers that can win you tight games.

More importantly, can he play possession based football or is he counter attack only?

Hes perfect for a back up striker, I do think hes good enough to break into first team and I rate him more highly than Jackson.

If we are going for another striker such as Ekitike or Sesko it’s beginning to look like Jackson may be off.

They're going to have to sell a hell of a lot. Their debts are enormous, they still owe £300+m in unpaid transfer fees. They still owe Dortmund for Sancho from 4 years ago.

If he didn’t have the relegation release clause, what do you all think he’d cost at market value? His age and output probably suggests 40-50M? Doesn’t mean a lot relative to 30M fee as results on the pitch are all that counts, but seems a good buy.

Also, who has higher ceiling - Delap or Guiu?

Age, homegrown, double digits on a low chance creating side, etc. He'd be at least £60-80m in this market.

I don't think we've seen enough from Guiu to say what he could be.

All I'm reading says Delap and Cunha going to Manure...

Think we penned a deal for a 19yr old striker currently at Strasborg where he'll stay for another year.

Job done then.

He's not going to come here and be a back up.

If he signs I think he expects he's first choice.

I love confidence in a young player but what has Delap accomplished to think he should be a first choice in a top side?

Ideally, if 30m fee is true, he'd be a great backup, and a low risk/high potential upside kind of a transfer. But knowing our current management, they'll probably see getting Delap as the solution to our goalscoring issues and will think it's good enough. I mean we're talking about people who thought having Nico Jackson as our only legit striker option going into the season was a good idea.

If it's Gyokeres/or Osimhen/or Isak plus Delap, then it makes sense. If it's just him, it's just going to be the same sh*t all over again, another "young player with potential".

Oh I agree but it seems like he has the host of clubs after him and he would want guarentees of gametime. If he joins us I can only imagine we've given him those guarentees and he's under a coach who wants him.

Also let's be honest would you put it past this lot to start the season with Delap/Jackson or Delap/Ekitike. I can't see this board spending a lot money on a 26+ year old, it's just who we are now.

Yeah, this is the kind of transfer our current management absolutely loves. The age, the Maresca/Shields connection, the fee. Probably our most obvious transfer target.

I think we’ll be in for him and one of the more experienced strikers, with Jackson being sold.

I’d be more than happy with this and perhaps a decent loan for Guiu.

Why would he come here to compete for a starting role when he can go to a mid table club as a guaranteed starter. Tuchel’s comments about him staying in the league and playing regularly backs up the claim he will be moving to any club that guarantees him a starting role.
