Plays well against us and everybody thinks he's great. The reality is that our defenders are the type old fashioned strikers like to bully, they're not good enough. I said it at the time when he played us, any decent defender would pocket Delap. He's just a hard working bruiser, but he's no prime Diego Costa.

Have you watched him against anyone else. I’ve seen him a few times and his touch was first class. He’s far more than a bruiser.

Yep, he is tenacious and a strong willed striker.  He is a footballer.  He has a footballing brain and good intuition. His goal scoring record would be much better if Ipswich were not having such a a hard time of it.

He scored 8 in 32 in a very good Hull side that finished 7th in the Championship. Lets not pretend he's ever been prolific in men's football.

in mens football? did he play ladies football in the past? Good for him.

I think he would be more prolific with the likes of Palmer, Sancho, Noni et al doing the providing. I have watched him play a lot this season and I like what I see. He was a teammate of Palmer's at Citeh and Pepe said he had a 'killer instinct'. He is an intelligent and intuitive footballer. As I say, i like what i have seen, he would work well for us.

Well before you play men's football you play youth football, perhaps he could be classed as prolific if he was against ladies though.

There's nothing he offers that we don't already have with Jackson. We should be looking for an upgrade.

I think him and Jackson competing for that no.9 spot would work out well for us.  I think Delap is sharper and more instinctual in front of goal.  They are somewhat similar players, but that is the type of player we are looking for.  Having two of them competing and alternating would be a good thing for the team imho. We have other options - like Nkunku and he is not being utilised and doesn't fit the system.

We do need an Upgrade for sure - but I am not seeing any remarkable options out there. The usual suspects often quoted around here are expensive and quite often not an upgrade. Victor, Isak, Gyorkes, et al.   Delap has the advantage of being used to the league and of being used to playing with the likes of Palmer and some of the other lads through England games.

He’s what? 21?

His previous loans were when he was a kid. He’s bulked up since then and is a unit. He’s certainly a lot closer to strikers we’ve had who have been successful ie Drogba and Costa. The lad has an excellent touch too.

Price will be everything but I’d be happy if we signed him.

Anyone know why he doesn't play for Ireland?

Seems strange that a whole generation of top talents are completely eschewing their Irish heritage in favour of England. I

His dad Rory Delap was Born in England, but he made 11 appearances for Ireland.  Dual citizenship.

Probably because he isn't Irish tbh.

Born in Winchester, England.

His dad born in Sutton Coldfield, England.

Why would he want to represent a foreign nation based on his grandparents being from there? My grandparents were from Leeds and i have zero connection to the City. He's holding out for England, like any Englishman would, and if it never comes Ireland will be the fall back so he can experience International tournaments.

Same reason the likes of Declan Rice opted for England. Irish football is second rate.

Although, if a lot of the eligible Oirish lads chose to play for Ireland they would have a decent team.  Bellingham, Grealish, Gallagher, etc.

This explains a lot
