Posted January 5, 200817 yr http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/footbal ... 172705.stm Liverpool rejected cash-strapped Luton's request to forgo their share of the gate receipts for Sunday's FA Cup third round tie. Luton, who are in administration, could go out of business on Monday
January 5, 200817 yr To be honest, would we? Hell no. So it's good our current opponants are even richer than us! But yes, that isn't the point, anything to trash Liverpool is all right with me
January 5, 200817 yr We did do it a few years ago Gem - we were playing ...err....errr. someone in the cup and ROman donated cash to them to pay for their youth changing facilities or something like that. Someone will remeber it better then I have (hardly difficult)
January 5, 200817 yr Close but no cigar chin decorated one. Notts County we donated a set of signed first team shirts to. They had asked for us to hand over more than the usual share of the gate receipts but I'm not sure what came of that request. It came back to me on the car home - it was Scarborough. Had a search on the net for it and found this http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal ... 421131.stm
January 5, 200817 yr Scarborough? Fair enough, I thought it might have been Notts.County or Huddersfield - I lose track, old age isn't agreeing with me
January 5, 200817 yr The content of the story aside, any bad press for Liverpool is remarkable enough
January 5, 200817 yr Author Bluebeard is right we did it against Notts County as well, I remember it being mentioned very clearly when we played them, I just dont remember when that was . But anyway thats my point, we've done it on several occasions, so have Man U, I'm not so biased as to point the finger at another club if we were the same
January 5, 200817 yr Ken Bates was also pretty charitable when clubs came begging. I remember him doing something for Newport County when we signed Roger Freestone - something like paying a transfer fee in full when it was meant to be dependent on appearances, to help keep them in business. There were other occasions, as well. The difference is that Liverpool's owners are massively in debt after buying a club that used to be very successful, whereas Bates bought one that was going to be very successful (eventually) for £1.

They also asked for a higher share of the gate receipts, but I couldn't find out what happened with that.
January 5, 200817 yr Bottom line is we helped both Notts County and Sc**thorpe whilst the dirty scouse bar stewards screwed Luton. The wife's well pleased cos she supports Watford and they hate Luton, in fact she's so pleased she's wagging her tail.
January 6, 200817 yr just to play devil's advocate here...aren;t Luton in administration, therefore any money they gave Luton would go to the creditors and not Luton , the club, itself?
January 7, 200817 yr Author LUTON GET THEIR REVENGE [iframe:1zanntrj]http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/fa_cup/7164002.stm[/iframe:1zanntrj]
January 16, 200817 yr just to fill in a few blanks on this one, a mate of mine gave me the lowdown on it. Liverpool have made similar donations in the past to Sunderland (waiving a fee on Stephen Wright when they got relegated), they also gave the gate receipts to another lower league club previously (cant remember who) but in this case, the club (Luton) didnt approach Liverpool, but the administrators did, and the club didnt beleive it was their business to do that. Also, the club are only in this trouble due to mismanagment and illegal payments, so they made their bed.
