Yes that is album in the singular - no weaseling out of it by saying 'I couldn't pick one so I picked 58' or 'I picked one from each genre or decade'.

Pick one album and one album only, the one that you would miss most from your music collection, the one you would take with you to keep you company on an excruciating visit to Grimsby, the one you would be torn between your marriage or your record player if you had to choose one or the other.

For me (yes this thread is inspired by three hours of back to back Floyd footage on BBC4)

I know it would probably be more credible to go with the Barrett inspired 'The Piper at the Gates of Dawn' or more expected to choose the universally worshiped 'Dark Side of the Moon' but for me, of all the Floyd albums, 'The Wall' is the one I most frequently put on and never turn off until it has finished and never skip a track. Skipping a track would be like not bothering to read a chapter in a book.

Roger Waters may have his critics for his attitude on and off throughout his time with Pink Floyd, and after, but anyone who denies his genius with this album as evidence, is churlish in the extreme. It is noting short of phenomenal that he penned practically the entire album on his own (Gilmour only has any credible rights to three tracks, "Young Lust", "Comfortably Numb" and "Run Like Hell")

No contest for me. 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars' (to give it its full handle) by the legendary David Bowie. (Although 'Life on Mars' from Hunky Dory will be played at my funeral as I'm carried in, but 'Rock and Roll Suicide' as they all file out!)

Nothing in my musical life has quite compared to putting that vinyl on the old record player in 1972 and hearing the first drum beats of 'Five Years'.

And 36 years on, my daughter listens to the album at least twice a week and has pinched all my old Bowie CDs to copy onto her hard drive!

I won't mention another - I'll be strict with myself....

I am a huge Punk fan, and it was almost a split decision between this and Never Mind the Bollow. Both are iconic, infact, the clash's eponymous album is more punk. However, as music goes...this album has it all

Including the sex pistol's "bollox" on the 1st day it was released with the additional single

Just to clarify it doesn't have to be al album you own on vinyl. If I was to restrict it to vinyl I would be ostracising people from countries such as Singapore who don't make vinyl records due all their PVC being used up on gimp suits.

i dont think i can pick one. plus it changes quite often. i love radiohead so ill go with the bends just over ok computer. absolutely blew me away the first time i heard it and i still listen to it pretty often.

I've been collecting different NMTB lp's ever since release date. I now have 12 (at the last count) ~ I've also got nigh on every vinyl released by the Pistols (except God Save The Queen (on A&M))

My favourite lp by far is "London Calling" which I also still play on a daily/weekly basis ~ It has everything for me. Punk, Jazzy bits, Reggae etc....

Madness are my favourite band & at the moment may I recommend "Dangermen Vol.1" if you haven't heard it & like ya Madness & old skool reggae & ska ~ You're going to love it!
