Yes it is, Heath Ledger is excellent as the joker. To be honest, I didn't know that was who played the part (watched it on a stream, not the movies), due to not seeing the credits.

Either way, a great film

Oh god no, not here as well. :D I can't pick up a paper and read about that bloody film. All the Batman films I've seen so far were utterly boring, with the exception of Batman and Robin, in which only the presence of George Clooney kept me entertained during an otherwise yawn-inducing 2 hours.

Saw it last night, and was very impressed. Ledger really is that good.

Two minor issues.

1. Batman's voice sometimes sounds a bit ridiculous. So low and gravelly, you wonder how he does that without seemingly using any sort of voicebox thingy.

2. IMO Maggie Gyllenhaal has a bit of an odd face, and even though she has a good body, is not quite 'fit' enough to be Wayne's object of desire. She does a good job acting-wise, but I just don't think she's that hot. Sure others will disagree.

Definitely go see though!

The Gyllenhaal character probably has a heart of gold and is very good to her old mother.

Oh undoubtedly Val, undoubtedly.

Unfortunately the film doesn't really focus on the relationship between mum and daughter, more on the one between a bat and a clown.

Scriptwriters eh!???

Oh and one of the trailers .. Lucas films an animated Star Wars.. Clone Wars.. !!!

Quite honestly it looks brilliant, but that does not take away from the fact that it is blasphemous... I will be mising that one along witht he Phantom menace bollox.

Star was a Trilogy, end off story.

batman and robin was one of the worst films I've ever seen.

I think the voice bale does for batman is okay, but a lot of people have a bit of a problem with it. it's not a big issue for me (the only problem I had with the film was the sonar nonsense... seemed to belong to the schumacher batman films rather than something by nolan (I think we can call this a british film by the way).

just a really great crime / action film... I've not seen brokeback mountain but I had seen other things with ledger in it and my opinion before yesterday was that he was nothing special really. basically I was well and truly wrong, his performance was quite special. no idea how that film got a 12a rating. seems the bbfc think swearing is way worse than all else, there was some quite shocking violence in the film (basically, I get scared easily and every scene with the joker had me on edge. also gary oldman is still amazing.

gylenhaal was interesting- I'm not a comic fan (well, all my knowledge of comics comes from cartoons when I was younger) so I have no idea how the character is meant to be, but firstly I think she attractive in an interesting way, but I think what's important to say is that her character is meant to be smart and a lawyer of some sort and her look is much more believable than katie holmes where you have to permanently suspend your disbelief.

anyway, basically a brilliant big bidget film (might be too long for some though), and lives up to the ridiculous hype. ledger deserves the inevitable best supporting actor nomination. part of me doesn't want to see another film, I think the ending was perfect for the tone of nolan's films. also no-one wil be able to play the joker character for a long long time.

I'd rather watch it in the theater(and quite probably will), but even if I don't, I won't download it. I hate watching movies on the computer as I think it waters down the whole experience. Sure it's expensive and I can't afford to go to the theater anywhere near as often as I'd like, but I think there's nothing like watching the movie in a good theater...well, when it comes to watching movies, that is.

really want to see it but will probably have to go for the download approach as I won't be able to take Mini Loz to it.

We are, however, taking Mini Loz to the cinema for the first time on Sunday to see Wall-E - he is tad excited about it (mainly because he has been told a cinema is the biggest TV screen in the world)

films like this id rather watch in the cinema for the impact and atmosphere. lesser films id rather watch at home. this does look something special.

read wall-e is excellent but that is the one I'll have to download. I will probably try to go to the imax to see this film again (you saw batman begins, yeah?)... but that's a big shame that you'll miss seeing it at the cinema (although totally understand, 12a means you are allowed to take kids of any age with you, but I'd complain if I took a young child in to see it, far too violent and scary). am already looking for downloads but nothing worth it- they're being taken down quickly at any rate at the moment. could be a month or two before a decent version is out.

the opening six minutes of the film is floating around in excellent quality- it's the jokers introduction and has no connection to the rest of the film so wouldn't spoil it. pm me if you want the links. if it's not legal it should be, far better than any trailer really.

Probably been leaked on purpose.

I've seen Wall-E and it is a great film. Mini-Loz should definitely enjoy it :D

I thought so, although they do keep having it removed (although that might be for appearances).

I went and saw it friday night. Your right, it is a great movie and the guy playing Penguin was fantastic.

Just leaving now

Half a chance of getting to see Dark Knight afterwards as the kids are going to their gran's house for a few hours.

Its brilliant. Everything a Batman story should be (dark, violent, messed up) and everything that Batman & Robin and Batman Forever wasnt (will never forgive WB for choosing Schmacher) Those awful films are now distant memories.

The Director totally nailed the Batman ethos and its hard to see where he goes from here.

I saw it only a few hours ago and I found it absolutely phenomenol. No joke. As soon as the opening sequence started, I was hooked.

Heath Ledger deserves the Oscar for Best Actor or Supporting Actor, whatever one he's in, because he was incredible. He properly freaked me out.

I reccomend this film to EVERYONE. ;)
