Lofty
A few thoughts. England were poor. The scoreline flattered them enormously. Can Lampard and G*rr*rd play together? Nope. G*rr*rd is sh*te. End of. Did nothing tonight. Walcott had an off day and should have gone off a lot sooner. Watching SWP run up endless blind alleys I was glad we sold him. The crowd were embarrassing. Booing Ashley Cole for a misplaced pass was bad, but that hysterical applause for Beckham coming on was cringeworthy. Who are f**k are these people? Pretty much agree with all of that. The twattish behaviour of the England fans (booing their own again) is partly why I've become disillusioned with the England team. England's best performance in years came when we didn't have to accomodate Gerrard. They let him back in, and lo and behold we go back to being mediocre. Clive Tyldesley reckons Beckham is still hugely popular among England fans. Which is strange, because I don't know a single England fan who thinks he should still be in the team. BlueBeard
Agree 100%, Lofty. The booing of Ashley Cole was an embarrassment - he made one mistake and the crowd turned on him - and it wasn't just a few either. Along with the previous booing of Lampard, this proves beyond doubt that there's a hell of a lot of w**kers who "support" England. Before anyone jumps on me, I know there's a lot of decent England fans who would have been just as angry about it as I am. I can't think of one England player who actually performed well tonight, yet strangely it's only the Chelsea contingent who ever get any stick. Watching on ITV, it was pretty clear why this might be - every time Lampard made a mistake, the commentator picked up on it straight away, yet whenever Gerrard/Ferdinand/Rooney f*cked up, it wasn't mentioned (apart from once in the first half, when the commentator must have been so embarrassed he felt he had to say something). PloKoon13
If Ferdinand hadn't been a half-asleep donkey, that 'mistake' might never have come to light anyway. Wes Brown was our best player in the first half, which goes to show how bad we were. Lampard and Gerrard were both pretty dismal, but Gerrard more so. The reluctance to drop either of them meant that Barry was pushed back into an ineffective position, whereas if Gerrard hadn't been there, both Lampard and Barry would have thrived. I was sad Heskey didn't score :D
Dubzz 6
Just got back from the Wales game, we won 2-0.. It pisses me off every time when I hear about England fans booing there own players, and it always seems to be Chelsea's, i.e. Lampard who most of the time is one of their best players! Gem
Didn't Ferdinand indicate that it was safe to play it back to Ashley? I doubt he would have played that ball otherwise. What if it has been Gerrard, Ferdinand, Rooney or Walcott? Would they have been booed? No they would not have been. Lamps? JT? Yes. They were right when they called him "Chelsea's Ashley Cole" - I'd rather him not play in front of those c*nts and play well week in, week out for us. No mention from anywhere that Lamps set up our first two with excellent crosses. Just many reasons why I'd rather see CFC win trophies than England, the fans don't f*cking deserve it. Mod
If Ferdinand hadn't been a half-asleep donkey, that 'mistake' might never have come to light anyway. Totally agree! Ferdinand after the game was saying that it was wrong to boo Ashley, and that it was an error and they should have let him get back into the game again! Looking at it, Ferdinand was totally lazy not making any attempt to let Ashley play an on the pitch pass to him, leaving him not much alternative, talk about pass all the blame! Also agree on the anti-Chelsea player sh*t from the commentators! When Ashley was getting boo's, they said something like "These supporters love their clubs (and country) and they are seeing Ashley Cole as a Chelsea player at the moment"
loz
An interesting contrast between the England game and Scotland's home draw with Norway. In the Scotland game Chris Iwelumo came off the bench to make his Scotland debut and promptly missed an absolute howler of a sitter. Open goal , yards from the line, dead centre, no defender on him and he managed to put it wide of the post. The Scotland supporters got right behind him immediately afterwards. coco
Also agree on the anti-Chelsea player sh*t from the commentators! When Ashley was getting boo's, they said something like "These supporters love their clubs (and country) and they are seeing Ashley Cole as a Chelsea player at the moment" At one point (when Frank had a shot from distance, which missed by a couple of foot) the camera panned to Capello, & Tyledsley said "I bet he's thinking, if that was for Chelsea it would of gone in". As if to say Frank doesnt try hard enough for England. We all know he is a secret Manx supporter, I bet when Tyledsley gets home he puts his man utd shirt on & stands in front of the mirror beating his ham all night. Utter twat ! :D Edited October 11, 2008 by coco
sweet waffle
It's got to the stage now with England that I'd rather watch it on mute. I feel sorry for any Chelsea player who pulls on the England jersey, one mistake and they become the devil incarnate.
loz
I just hope none of them decide to walk away from international football as a result. They should hold their heads high and play through it unlike Scholes who stuck his head in the sand when things weren't working out, or Carragher who through his toys out of the pram or even Rooney who you can rely on to behave like a petulant kid if his performance isn't up to scratch. byatt
Ash had a bit of a shocker tonight, suppose it don't help when your own fans boo you after a mistake, thought Lampsy was one of the better performers which is good, no Chelsea injuries, so its all good
Essien's Strike
english football fans are the shame of the nation. first it was because they would be trouble makers and thugs. now its because they embarrass the nation in front of all the other countries by booing their own. i see now its become their little game: booing is immediate and without provocation. i dont think they are real football fans, they have got to be some kind of scumbags to turn up to a game and pour abuse on their own team. i feel shamed personally to tell people i am a football fan sometimes, and they look at you like youre not quite such a nice guy anymore. england may be riding high on the sterling strength and booming economy but pride comes before a fall and theres gonna be some serious spills coming in the next couple of years. England needs to get hurt a little so they can appreciate what theyve got. which is a team of fine, world beating players who need support and cheering rather than vitriol. Sounds like something i'd get pissed off about, purely for the non-chelsea biasm.. I wouldn't go out of your way. It was a fairly average performance by the team as a whole. Lampard was, or me, the pick of the bunch but even he was not particularly great. Gerrard and Barry were awful. Capello paid the price for not picking the only natural goalscorer England has and we witnessed Rooney wandering all over the place and Heskey wondering why on earth he was the lead striker. Ashley did make a bad mistake and I don't buy into the passing the blame onto Rio stuff. It was a bad mistake by Ashley and we should just accept that. I liked the fact that Ferdinand came out afterwards and said the fans who booed should feel ashamed rather than making some lame remark like 'we understand their frustrations but need their backing blah blah blah'
Dubzz 6
I'm annoyed just listening to it, but it doesnt surprise me because a lot of English fans are fickle, theyre only happy when they are beating the best teams in the world and dominating the smaller nations, and nothing less will do.. Which puts enormous pressure on the players.. And I just wanted to see the mistake so I can make my own mind up about it lol, and apparantly theres a repeat on ITV1 at 11 so I think i'll watch it then.. BlueBeard
No mention from anywhere that Lamps set up our first two with excellent crosses. You're spot on Gem. The commentator was clearly orgasmic at the thought of Beckham providing a cross which led to an England goal, but not once was it mentioned that Lampard provided the corner and the free-kick for the first two goals, even at the time! Lampard's not my favourite player by a long chalk, but credit where it's due, he did the business tonight and yet again it wasn't mentioned. Lofty
It's ITV and David Pleat, if it's not a Man Utd, or Liverpool player or "Prince David" Beckham then they'll turn a blind-eye to it Funny you should say that. During the match there was an exchange along the following lines: First sycophantic smarmy bar steward: here comes Prince David Second sycophantic smarmy bar steward: You mean King David First sycophantic smarmy bar steward: Yes of course King David Both sycophantic smarmy bar stewards simultaneously cream their underpants. June
BBC named Heskey as the man of the match. That's a terrible judgement. Rooney and Lampard much more effective than him. He wasted to many chances.
