Posted December 17, 200816 yr How lucky is this sod? I hope we get some sort of paying on fee if he does sign. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...uth/7787323.stm
December 17, 200816 yr Diarra to replace Diarra. I wonder how much Real offered for him...they usually don't spend big money on defensive players. Would City have really been prepared to pay £20mil...I doubt it.

December 17, 200816 yr Good on him. One question here - and apologies if im missing something , but are Real excluded from the transfer window or something ? Huntlaaer and now Diarra.

I think they can sign whoever they want, just like us signing Ivanovic before the window opened last season, you can tie up the deal and have the player move, but the sanction means they can't play until the window is open and they've been registered

Anyway, i get your point.
December 17, 200816 yr So we sold him to Le Arse for £2 million quid ? Anyone know how much pompey paid for him ? reckon it would be in the region of £6 million Be gutted if Le Arse get a cut of any transfer fee for him for 6 months at the club !

Ah that's when we were a bit blase about such matters and transfer fees were of little concern. Now Roman is counting the pennies, hopefully someone (Kenyon) will get a bollocking as it appears we f**ked up YET AGAIN!
December 17, 200816 yr Arsenal get 25% of the sale Ouch !! as Nibs said hope we get soemthing out of it but I doubt it !
December 17, 200816 yr I dont think we can actually get a percentage of the sale two sales onward. At least, I have never heard about that before. We had no business selling him to Wenger for 3 million anyway. We made good profit on him, but he couldve turned into the next Vieira there for all we knew. That move itself was very stupid Diarra wanted out when he was here, despite us being very strong and under Jose at the time. I guess the only lesson our brass can learn (im not holding my breath because they havent really learned much) is that when you have a promising youngster, make sure you attach something like that in the sale clause. Arsenal will just waste that 3-5 million on entry level contracts for young players, most of whom will never amount to anything or leave before their primes. Not trying to sound bitter, I just know it to be true while Wenger stays in charge there. But Im glad Pompey are taking advantage of Calderon's desperation and cashing in.
December 17, 200816 yr And yet apparently we're skint??? Another good bit of business by the club - letting a player got for £23m less than his market value 18 month later. That money could buy us a forward in current climate. And people keep telling/asking me 'Do you think Roman got where he is by being foolish, he know's business etc', 'He's shrewd etc' Well since he's been at Chelsea, the club have shown about as much business acumen as Woolworth's

They won't be able to play until January. Diarra and Huntlaaer will still play for their respected clubs until the 1st. Anyway, good luck to him - he's a top-notch player and deserves to be playing at the highest level. Selling him and Eidur were Jose's biggest mistakes.

Selling him and Eidur were Jose's biggest mistakes. I know they wont be able to play Jan, i just wasnt aware you could sign players out of the transfer window , which doesnt really make it much of a window! It was a shock when we sold him but if he had have stayed im not sure he would be getting any more games than he was when he was here. Id rather have Mikel - Diarra always looked ok , but his most impressive games for us came as a right back stand in i seem to recall.
December 17, 200816 yr we should never have got rid of him in the 1st place he is a cracking little player

And people keep telling/asking me 'Do you think Roman got where he is by being foolish, he know's business etc', 'He's shrewd etc' Well since he's been at Chelsea, the club have shown about as much business acumen as Woolworth's Diarra was deliberatly running down his contract and if we hadn't sold him to l'arse when we did he would have gone to them in january for nothing, we tried to keep him but he didn't want to so not everything is Romans fault, if we didn't get sidwell then Diarra most likely would have never left, now that IMO is Jose's fault.
December 17, 200816 yr It turned out we are the only one who didnt make any money out of him :) We should have never signed Sidwell last year, that was the last shove for him. If I'm Scott Sinclair or Di Santos, I would be eager for a move if I dont get any playing time soon. Our 'young' players are good enogh when given the opportunity - e.g. Diarra, G Johnson. I dont think he is good enough to cement a spot in the Real team, but its been hell of a couple of years for him since we let him go :D

Our major mistake, imo, was possibly selling him to Arsenal. If he hadve evolved into a great player there we wouldve looked like fools until he retired. Roman is a smart businessman, but its not his job to run the negotiations. Its you-know-who's
December 18, 200816 yr I couldn't really care less about him. If Madrid are prepared to pay that sort of stupid money for him the more fool them. The guy is a decent player but not worth anything like £20m. If he was still at Chelsea he wouldn't get in the side. We are hardly short of central midfielders, all of whom are better than he is.

Then why not place a sell on clause? It maybe scant consolation, but we'd have picked up a few Million from Arsenal when he went to Pompey, but we didn't!! Too me that's just bad business, like most of the players who've left us under Roman's era!

Too me that's just bad business, like most of the players who've left us under Roman's era! it was exactly the same situation as when dalla bona left. we werent in a position so make demands we could only take what arsenal offered. For all we know the club may have wanted a sell on clause but arsenal were in a position of strength, they didnt need to make the deal sweet for us all the really needed to do was say "no screw it, we'll get him for free in a couple of months" Edited December 18, 200816 yr by jack h
December 18, 200816 yr I would like to see where Rafael van der Vaart, Lassandra Diarra and Klass Jan Huntelaar are in a year when Wesley Sneijder, Mouhammadou Diarra and Ruud Van Nistelrooy are back and fully fit. My guess is "gone the way of Julio Baptista" i.e. out on loan until they can convince someone to take them off the books Madrid are such a stupid, shortsighted club. Now that they are in trouble, they leaked news about a pre existing deal with Ronaldo for next summer. Probably Calderon trying to save his skin. Do they not think the outside world has seen this movie every summer since they bought Figo? This isnt 2003, f**king clowns
December 18, 200816 yr Agree. You do have to wonder when players will realise that Real have such a short term transfer policy, that moving there is one of the most unstable career choices out there! 1. Madrid have no issues with spending big bucks for cover players, and then utterly discarding them once the 'first string' are back to full fitness. 2. The manager changes every season, if not more often, so even if you are a regular starter under one gaffer, you could suddenly find yourself not wanted a few games later. Granted this can potentially happen at all clubs when a new boss comes in, but the manager turnover at Real is un-Real. 3. If the fans like you, you've more chance of playing, if they don't, you really don't have a chance. Even if the manager is a good one, he is always under constant threat of being undermined by both the President and the fans, if they decide they don't like what they see. I could go on and on, but you do have to wonder why the lure of Real remains so so strong. Bottom line, come next season, one Diarra isn't going to be a happy puppy.
