Santos is one year younger than Elliot Anderson. He absolutely could have forced his way into the team if he was good enough. A manager who loved him at Strasbourg came in. He just simply didn't kick on. We don't know why, but he has never delivered a MOTM performance for us.
He stated 13 games in the premier league last year, I don't remember a single great performance.

Because our options are now Lavia who's been here 4 years and hasn't completed a full 90, Barco who was less impressive than Santos in Ligue 1, and Essugo who we have no idea how good he is.

So we are going to rely on Lavia who is made of glass, Barco who's last run in the Premier League wasn't great and wasn't as good as Santos in Ligue 1, and Essugo who is a complete mystery.

I don’t agree with the Pedro comments, he’s decent for where we are and can get much better with us too but I’d like more quality everywhere.
I’d swap Delap, Garnacho and Gittens for Osimhen tomorrow.He’d impact our season more than the 3 of them combined.
With less games we need more quality less quantity. Real competition for Pedro or someone for him to play off.

I think a major point being overlooked though is why would elite players want to play for a mediocre mid table club in a small ground, that pays low salaries, doesn't compete and cannot make European competition when half of the division has qualified.

I think you should be careful on forum lest people figure out how crazy smart you are .. the argument is that a player is being courted by Barca to start and replace Lewa but is not good enough for us. how is the Eden example relevant the only example would be is there was a Barca or Madrid starter who was a sub here..
besides the only season that he has been here jao has out scored Jackson in a struggling team. Are there better strikers than Jao yes but then you are talking of a handful that we will never get like the Haalands of the world but they ain’t coming here. Anyone believing we will sign winners and more experienced players are deluded. we already have Penders, Barco, Emegha, Satpaev and Quenda coming, we had Sarr come back in January, dont be surprised if we buy Enciso, the club are a bunch of liars, unless we can somehow sell a bunch of players nothing will happen, some people are saying we should buy Hall, why? we have Hato and now Barco to replace Cucurella, Quenda will replace Garnacho (if he leaves), Penders will replace Jorgensen, meaning once again we are stuck with Sanchez,Emegha will replace Delap, Sarr will replace Tosin or Badieshille, Fofana wont leave as no one will pay his wages, If we can dump Gusto we may keep Josh

If you want to compete now and in the future, you sign player around 24 (this chart use 23). If you keep signing kids, you basically keep building your team for the future.

Whilst I don’t think Alonso himself is a bad appointment, I still have no optimism for next season. There’s no way enough changes can be made to this awful squad to allow any discernible improvement.
And I think it’s massively naive and overly optimistic to think the owners/SDs are going to change what they’re up to. Alonso has already been dumped with half of Strasbourg’s inexperienced players for next season before he’s even started the job.

I said as soon as we sacked LR, Xabi Alonso was the only choice, so credit where credit is due, this is 1st managerial decision that i have agreed with under this ownership.
So I'm willing to extend some good will over the summer, and then see if they make some more correct decisions.
Focus now is on giving Alonso a team that is capable of winning the league. I am not buying into this 3 year project anymore. 1 game a week, sell half the squad, dont be greedy, and push the boat out for quality in a few positions.
We are more than capable of doing it in 1 summer, we have seen these lot change most the squad in a january window before, and even without CL football, you can bring in top players, if you pay them, and with Xabi Alonso convincing them, once one big name comes the rest will follow.
Squad doesnt need to be massive. Lets build it to Xabi's strengths.
